I feel this could take Hoffmans value into Ales Kotalik territory. I.E they have to pay you to take him. This is some toxic crap.

The Senators would probably have to toss in the 22nd over-all they acquired from the Penguins, just to make a Hoffman trade palatable.

First it sounded like Karlsson's wife had postpartum. Now with everyone chiming in, it seems like a legit accusation, and perhaps Hoffman's gf is nuts. I like to see people stand beside someone when they know they're right, but for Hoffman to stand by his gf 150% when others apparently "in the know" are vocal about her being the culprit, is a pretty crazy thing to do. If they're a volatile couple, I hope the Flames stay away.
It's one thing to have character, but it's another thing to have drama. This is crazy person drama.

My wife is good friends with one of the wives who is tweeting about this. I know she will be chatting about this, but I am pretty much guaranteed not to talk about it.
Cool story bro.

Just why? Not even remotely close to advancing this any many other discussions on bullying, harassment of any kind or physical abuse. Just ridiculous on so many levels.

Folks, a quick PSA: when you see an inappropriate post, it creates a lot more work for mods if seven or eight people then quote that post. Just report it and we can deal with that as appropriate.

News UpdateOttawa citizen has updated their story.
UPDATED: Team officials and Hoffman knew about harassment allegations for weeks, agent says
http://ottawacitizen.com/news/local-...-erik-karlsson
Quote:
Though the application was sworn in early May, nearly one month after the Sens’ season ended in Boston, team officials, including general manager Pierre Dorion, and Hoffman have known about the allegations since the end of the regular season.
|
Quote:
With the NHL draft and the beginning of free agency around the corner — traditionally a time when teams test the trade waters — there has been much public speculation among hockey insiders that one, if not both players, will be dealt by the team.
Hoffman’s agent, Robert Hooper, believes it’s a certainty.
Hooper said Hoffman hasn’t asked for a trade but said he wouldn’t stand in the way of one either and that Dorion, Ottawa’s general manager, is aware of that.
“What we’ve indicated to Pierre is that, and let’s call a spade a spade, it would be very difficult for both parties — both Erik and Mike as well as the wives and the fiancées — to co-exist in the same wives’ room and the same dressing room,” Hooper said.
No demands have been made to Dorion from Hoffman’s camp but given the intense insider speculation Hooper said he thinks “the writing’s on the wall.”
“In my 22 years in this business I don’t believe that I’ve ever come across a situation like this,” Hooper said. “This is an exceptionally unique situation and one that’s very unfortunate. Hopefully it can get resolved as quickly as possible.”
Hooper said there have been several discussions with Dorion regarding the matter.
“This isn’t something we talked about with Pierre just today. We’ve been aware of this situation since the end of the season,” Hooper said.
|
Quote:
Hoffman’s agent also expressed his confidence in Caryk’s innocence and told this newspaper Hoffman only learned of Melinda Karlsson’s application from the news report.
“It’s a very delicate and difficult situation,” Hooper said. “At this stage, we haven’t been provided anything at this point in time that would indicate Mike or Monika is involved with this type of situation.”
Hooper expressed some frustration and disappointment with only having “Mike and our side” finding out about the order of protection application from the media and not the police.
“I would have thought in this day and age … I’m surprised they weren’t able to locate Mike quicker than they have,” Hooper said.
(As a private peace bond application, the application was made by Karlsson herself, not the police. And as Caryk was the only named defendant, the summons can only be served on her, not Hoffman.)
Hooper said that the forward and defenceman have not discussed the issue.
“I think this has been between Melinda and Monika and less between Mike and Erik,” he said.

What a wild story and what a gong show in Ottawa. Complete laughing stock of the league.
Didn’t take long to see the Lucic, Eriksson trade offers on HF. This will absolutely tank Hoffman’s trade value though I am not sure what team would want to take that risk on? At this point I hope the Flames steer clear.

I'm so curious what the post was now.
But ya. This seems like the senators already have their minds made up. Either that or a huge conspiracy to ruin someone's career

Tough situation for the Senators as Hoffman’s value has tanked. I’m sure a few teams will investigate this situation thoroughly but if they find merit to the accusations what team will even consider bringing that into their locker room? Players may be able to look past this if Hoffman is clean but you have to think players wives would not be accepting of her in their circle. Would be a very prickly situation and I’m not sure he’s good enough of a player to risk locker room chemistry for.

I really thought the next NHL PR release would be about drunken antics by the Caps, not about this crazy crap, wow.

Two things jump out at me:
1) "As a private peace bond application, the application was made by Karlsson herself, not the police. And as Caryk was the only named defendant, the summons can only be served on her, not Hoffman."
-This suggests that Mike was kept in the dark while Monika was likely aware of the summons.
2) "Hooper said that the forward and defenceman have not discussed the issue."
-That's got to be bad news. You play the game at the highest level for your teammates with your heart and soul, that bond is one step lower than being brothers. This isn't a coincidence or 'just haven't had time to chat' yet.
All in all, it's really tough to not jump to conclusions when there is such overwhelming evidence and it all makes such reasonable sense.
As a side note - I remember seeing the Ottawa-Flames game later in the season, and thinking that Karlsson was checked out. There were obviously plenty of other reasons for that, but I didn't realize that this was probably just another layer of issues distracting him. I'm sure it distracted the rest of the team too. What a gong show!

I assume that eventually this will be proven true or false and if found guilty Hoffman will likely have to end this relationship if he wants to play in the league. If it leaks out that he has known or been involved in this at all he might as well start looking for places to live in Russia
