Their teams play the exact same system. The Calgary Flames regularly outshot the opposition but could not score. The Carolina Hurricanes regularly outshot the opposition but couldn't score. The Hurricanes had strong Corsi for %, the Flames had strong Corsi for %. GG was terrible at making adjustments and line decisions, go look on the Hurricanes HF board and you will see the exact same complaint about Peters. The only difference is one was a softy who was a players coach and the other is a taskmaster who will take you to woodshed publicly for a poor performance.
You can get the same comment on every team's board. Every team hates their coach's perceived lack of in game adjustments and player usage. Check out complaints about AV. Exactly the same.

At bare minimum Bill Peters will make more in game adjustments than just the screen brightness settings on his iPad.

it was a joke, but in the coaching thread i said "be careful what you wish for". it was tongue in cheek, but i think its very sad that many of the people who did nothing but incessantly post for the last year about "anyone but gluegun" are now freaking out now that the coach is "anyone but gluegun"
i think some of you need to take a deep breath and step outside
I'm surprised there are so many people on Calgarypuck who have watched enough Carolina Hurricanes game over the past four years to accurately assess Peters' tactical approach and player usage decisions, while factoring in the minor league goaltending his teams got in the process.
Especially surprising considering how many people didn't know who Jaccob Slavin was when he received Norris votes or re-signed in Carolina. Watch enough to know the coach's systems in and out but don't know who their number one defenseman is? Seems legit.
The majority here that are reserved in their excitement for Peters are absolutely not saying that. I actually don't think I've seen a single post here that claimed to have watched Hurricanes games and formed an opinion on their own viewings.
Everyone is looking at his track record in Carolina, and aren't swayed by his resume outside the NHL. They may have watched a few games to backup their pessimism, but you'll have to quote the poster who thinks they have it all figured out based on Hurricanes games they've watched.
And what has been posted to give you an indication that we don't know who Faulk (who had his worst years under Peters) is?
If you really hate Peters as the coach then go on twitter find him and tweet him that you hate him already, think he is the worst coach possible, say that he is going to fail in Calgary, that Calgary sucks, and that you will burn his house down if he comes here. He gets enough negative opinions maybe he wont come here.
Should be perfect for all of the haters on this board who love being anonymous.

We don't, but we can read what Hurricanes fans and media say, and they say the same thing that Flames fans have been saying about Gulutzan. Oh and there's the record as well. It's amazing and ironic how many on here can overlook the record and say that Gulutzan's and Peter's teams "look good"; after all the jokes we made about MacT's comments of the Oilers being "visually better".
As for the goaltending, the Flames goaltending isn't that great. Smith was inconsistent all year and he is old, he's more likely to breakdown or regress than get better. The kids are not ready for anything more than backup goalie.
It's not like Peters will be coming to a Calgary team with great goaltending.

He would have had better results with a more talented roster. He took a team that has no top-shelf scoring talent and no goaltending, and made them look like a viable playoff team for much of the season. The wheels fell off eventually and he was very visibly frustrated with certain players by the end. Bear in mind this happened at the same time as an ownership change and the GM getting "promoted" out of his job.
Criticism on Peters is that he forces a very Corsi/analytics friendly structure, with a lot of shooting from the outside and a lot of risks at the blue line which allow a smaller but higher-quality number of chances against. You need the right group of players to really be successful with that style.
IMO he's the best coach currently on the market.

Come on, ask the average Carolina fan what a good line change is and they'll tell you its when the pursuit car forces the lead car to the high point of a turn.

Have you read some of the angry posts in the coaching thread.
I have very little doubt that there are people posting on here that are more than capable of doing just that.

Sorry but most fans are morons...every team that doesn't win the fans are ripping the coach
arent most people here because you can(until recently it seems) have a reasonable hockey discussion without 30 different guys coming in with hot takes like on hf?
I think in an ideal world, Peters agrees to come in as an Associate or Assistant Coach under Darryl Sutter with a handshake agreement to become the head coach once Darryl retires. He can build some NHL success that way.
The Flames need to stop having the perception of cheap and mediocre coaches, especially when they've bungled their PR so badly in the past year. Let Bill Peters get some NHL head coach success somewhere else, at the moment the Flames need to stop being a training ground for coaches looking to start being successful. They need someone who can bring success into the room.
