Smith was good early in the season but really was not good during the stretch. There is no way he was the team's MVP this season. Gaudreau or Giordano or Tkachuk.

I don't mind if the Flames don't even win another game, and continue to have terrible games like this one and previous ones, because it'll truly drive home the point that the coaching staff and the roster needs a major makeover this off season. Treliving can't be hesitant at all.

Kulak has been fine this season, very steady. He’s certainly not the problem.

Or more accurately...Smith's stats have regressed back to his career average and he's almost bang-on what should have been expected from him.

We will only score a goal if the ducks make a brutal mistake or if we get a lucky deflection on the powerplay.
Not a single line has generated any sustained zone time.
When we do get an odd man rush our guys can't even hit the net.

In retrospect could it have been worse? Smith has been bad.GG's inability to see what's right in front of him is shocking.

It’s Gaudreau.
In a system devoid of generating quality chances, Gaudreau is a one man army.
He may be half the size of Ferland, but it hasn’t stopped him from carrying the lug around on his back all season. On-top of that, thanks to whatever injury Monahan is battling, he’s been dragging #23 up and down the ice for a few weeks now.

Or GG could have started Rittich, who lets in a couple goals, and then we crucify him for starting the backup instead of Smith. It’s a win/win for being angry!

Taking a while to get to 5000

Sorry to say it folks but we're probably staring down a 1A / 1B scenario next year with another vet to spell Smith

Treliving, if you are reading, the team is playing to get the coach fire. So, FIRE HIM ALREADY!

I agree. I think he played too much and ran out of gas. Then the injury derailed him. Hasn't been able to right the ship since.
Rittich played two really well in the two games before Smith rushed back. Thought he should have kept playing.
But watching Smith since coming back, and letting Rittich sit, cost them the stretch drive. Bad goaltending is soul-sucking.

Sometimes watching things crash and burn is pretty fun to watch (e.g. Nascar crashes).

Ideally we get someone good as they'll likely be the 1A the following season too, as we break in Rittich/Gillies with more games.

No point in getting mad anymore...more interested in reasons
Flames are controlling the play they just have very few finishers...goal would be huge for momentum but its such a struggle
Goalie has to be better too, have the Ducks had a scoring chance this period?

Hard to argue with that.
