They needed the cap space to call up a Kunin and to sign a college free agent.

They are also apparently in talks to trade Mike Rielly as well.

What's the risk? He's on an expiring low-value contract, fills a couple needs for the team (RW, tough) and his acquisition cost is zero. If he doesn't work out he sits in the pressbox.

So why is this such a disaster?

Ya amd since then hasn’t broken 25 points.

I find this take bizarre actually, free depth player who has size and can score. If we play Anaheim in the playoffs, he will pay some dividends.

I hate it, but thats because I guess i see Hathaway as a good penalty killer who brings energy every game. His hands are cold right now but he has showed he can contribute offensively. I feel like Hathaway is going to be our next Paul byron, hands go cold and we forget about the other things he brings and send him packing.

No personal attack, but I'm not surprised you see one.

edit: The counter arguments are all over this thread, if you took the time to read them. No risk claim on waivers. That's the deal right there. I guess you're imagining the next 2 months and how this plays out, and you judge it based on what you think might happen.

You're clouding facts with your own opinions. The only thing that has happened is a claim on waivers, with no assets lost. That's it. Nothing more.

The "Glencross effect".

I was surprised that the Flames claimed him (why didn't Minny get, say, a 7th-round pick from us?) but the fit is there. Hopefully he can boost the powerplay.

I'm just going to assume this means the asking price for Kane is too high and the Flames figured they will just wait till July 1.

If claiming Stewart means not having to give up any of the defense prospects for Kane, then that's good enough for me.

According to Conroy, Gio trains with Stewart in the summer.

Ok so everyone is saying this is a depth move...
Does this depth move make us better..
NO.
Does this depth move help with scoring? NO
does this depth move help us make the playoffs? NO
So all in all this won’t help us win, and winning is what we need to do.
But most of you like just cheering for a ,mediocre team year after year.
I want this team to win CUPS, that’s what winners want.
You want mediocre baby you got it with this management team.

Hathaway should be on the fourth line. He should bring energy each game but isn't consistant, too often he's invisible.

Not at the NHL level he hasn't. And really only this year in the AHL. He got huge minutes this year in the AHL and played with the best offensive players (Jankowski and Mangiapane). I think he was getting Maroon points there.

I like him fine, but he's not offensive powderkeg waiting to blow up.
