I just don't know what else the coaches can do with the PP. The entries look much better, so gaining the zone, which many PPs struggle with, isn't the concern.
When they are setup, they have Gaudreau on the half boards, Tkachuk infront/beside and behind the net, Monahan in the slot. Those are ALL LW forwards. There is no real bang bang shooting threat. We've seen many good PPs, where the forward at the half wall passes it to the guy down low beside the net, who looks for a bang bang pass the guy in the slot. Or the forward on the half wall who also has a cross seam option to the other side for the one timer.
With the personnel they have at their disposal, these traditional set plays are of no use. Also, the PP is run thru gaudreau, the team's best passer/playmaker, it doesn't help that his shot is not really a threat either so, teams are easily able to take away the only real threat being the attempt at a pass to monahan on the slot. instead, 90% of the zone time is passing the puck between gaudreau/giordano, or rimming the puck down behind the net to just hope to push the puck back to the point eventually.
I was all over cameron/gulutzan when the team couldn't even get setup half the time, and the inability to do anything other than the gaudreau bump back pass. That issue has remedied itself. The lack of any half court offense and high scoring shot generation... that part i find myself blaming the coach less and the lack of the appropriate personnel more.
