Anywhere to see the Gio hit? I checked NHL.com, and maybe I'm dumb, but I couldn't find it.
I got home just in time to see Hamilton's goal after the 'Canes hit the post and thought they scored. That was awesome and such a back breaking goal for Carolina.
I was very harsh on Cassie as i thought she was quite awful. Admittedly, I've found that she has improved quite drastically. Her voice still comes off pretty flat, but I have found her insight to be..... rather insightful, as of late.
There better not be a suspension on Gio or they might as well make it a no contact league. When you have 10 guys skating around at 20 km/hr, wearing hard plastic armor, even on a clean hit, guys are gonna get hurt every now and then. That was 100% clean. Gio’s shoulder into Aho’s chest while Aho was busy looking down at the puck. There shouldn’t be a suspension just because the guy got hurt. 5 and a game was overzealous; suspension worthy? Now way. Loved Gulutzan ripping into the refs after that. Seems like he’s starting to get a bit more of an edge.
I only saw the two clips in this thread, as I missed the actual game, but from the two angles I saw, Gio's shoulder caught Aho's chin.
Not because Gio was head hunting, but because Aho had his head down admiring his sick toe drag, leaving Gio to decide between hitting him, or let him skate past for a prime scoring chance in a high danger area.

Sorry I dont think she is getting better. She is trying too hard to be an analyst instead of doing color. Hrudey tells a ton of his playing days stories, thats the color. She is also way too frequently wrong about whats actually just happened on the ice.

I can totally understand how some people think the Gio hit is suspendable, and I also get that some people think it was a clean but hard hit that caught Aho with his head down.
I have a harder time understanding the fact that people think Cassie Campbell is a good colour commentator. I will agree that she has improved, but God awful to bad still means that she's bad.
But I think these two issues goes to show, people see different things, hear different things, and form different opinions given the exact same set of variables.
Ultimately it means that if you disagree with my opinion, you're an idiot.

I agree she has improved, but I still don't like her work. Multiple times a game it appears she is reading pre-written 'reports', her voice goes more flat and she is not up to speed with what is taking place on the ice, not to mention what she is saying often has no relevance to what is taking place on the ice. She sounds almost as good as Glencross.
I really like her effort, and I know it is a hard job, but I don't doubt if this was anyone else we would have seen a change already.

The Flames are playing unreal right now, but I believe the stats tell us that these breaks are usually tough to come back from as they're mandated to not practice and the players usually go away with family and really check out for the whole week.
Don't get me wrong they deserve the break, but they really are crappy to head into on a streak.
A little perspective, the old Flames would have come out flat against Florida after beating TB, the top team in he league. The old Flames would have come out flat in an afternoon game against Carolina. It would have been easy to make excuses missing Monny and having to revise 2 lines. The old Flames would come back from a mandatory 5 day break and suck. Maybe, just maybe the old Flames no longer exist...

Aho was egregious cutting into the middle with his head down like that, and Gio stood his ground and hit him. Clean hit. Chicket#### refs made the right (non)call initially and then caved and went back on it. Absolutely disgusting to see a five minute penalty for that.
The amount of crying and sheer obtuseness from Canes fans is amazing.

Gio was completely stopped on the ice and braced for contact, we don't even know for sure if there is a leg injury or leg and head. Aho's head did get hit, but there isn't much else for Giordano to do, besides move out of the way. This looks to me like a collision on the ice, and Aho lost.
I don't think he should be suspended, but the NHL is pretty good at screwing these things up.
That's the biggest change from the first few months where the team was giving up lots of turnovers and high quality scoring chances. Goaltending has been very good but they aren't being hung out to dry.
i mean, i don't know exactly what they expect gio to do there? let Aho skate through the slot and score a goal?
Gio's shoulder is down it looks like to my eyes and its Aho who crosses through the slot with his eyes looking down on the ice....at the 4 second point of the video it looks like Aho has his head up moving to the net, and Gio is clearly there in the slot. I mean, Gio coming across to help his d partner isn't something that needs to be explained to an NHL player is it?
obviously biased to Gio's side here, but it doesn't look like Gio tried to put anything extra on that hit

And a big reason for this is the play of the 2nd pairing. Hamonic has found his game which seems to have stabilized Brodie. Or maybe Brodie found his game and stabilized Hamonic. Whatever the case, that pairing is playing a ton better.

I like Cassie. I’m not looking for a hell of a lot of insight from my television or monitor and her different voice is refreshing and I don’t find anything she says that irritating. I often don’t have the sound on or only paying half attention so maybe my voice shouldn’t count for much.
I get that everyone has preferences and I guess the commentary team is far more important to some than others.

Yep for sure. Brodie has settled down and Hamonic is starting to fit in. Also the infusion of Hathaway and Jankowski have made the team quicker and harder to play against.
