I have been following Kane on social media for years.
He has definitely matured a lot, and it's showing on the ice. Still no Lidstrom/Iginla, but a lot better than before.
It's a bit off topic, but I also know that Kane does a ton of charitable work outside of hockey.

However, even he hadn't matured, I don't think it would be a big issue. He's only one person.
I am skeptical of the premise that negative personalities can have such a large impact. Especially when they're not one of the established core players. But Kane wouldn't be, at least not really. Part of why I love having Gio as captain.

I would be very happy is they signed him as a free agent. He's exactly what the team needs.
Just don't overpay via trade right now.

I worked with a couple of kids a few years back who were both from Winnipeg. They claimed the legend of Kane's D-baggery was common knowledge amongst folks from that town-kinda reminiscent of how many Flames fans have first-hand accounts of dealing with Dion Phaneuf in public. Apparently, he was hated for his shenanigans with fans, causing trouble in bars,etc.....Maybe he's grown up, but probably not that much.

In-law family member of mine played hockey with Kane when they were on the Jets.

The stories I've heard and level of dbaggery was, at the time, very, very high from all reports. The maturity to overcome such a mountain of dbaggery would have to be nothing short of a miracle.

I could see the Flames having interest in Reinhart but where would he fit?

Not sure if this was asked or not but did the Sabres have scouts at our last couple games?

If Burke is quoted as saying "Jesus Christ couldn't get 20 idiots to win" in regards to character, it’s highly unlikely Kane is the target.

Only possibility I'd be interested in is a Bennett + for Reinhart deal

He would probably be riding the 4th line until next year. Keep in mind Jagr isn't with us forever. It'd be good to get Reinhart right now (assuming that's who we would/should go for), especially if one of Ferland, Frolik, or Jagr get injured. It's good to have backup, and I would trust Reinhart more than Lazar/Stajan/Hamilton.

O'Rielly-Janko-Jagr could make a lot of sense as a line. I think any trade would have to include Lazar ($1m)+ Bennett ($2m) + Stajan ($3m) + prospects to make the cap and trade rationales work. Buffalo gets younger and Eichel gets a leadership position. Calgary goes into Win-Now mode.

Lines would then be:

Johnny-Monahan-Ferland
Tkachuk-Backlund-Frolik
O'Rielly-Janko-Jagr
Versteeg-Hamilton-Brouwer
Hathaway/Glass

Chiarelli's there to offer Poolparty for Kane, and somehow Treliving will own him again by trading Freddie Hamilton and a 5th round pick for Kane instead.

Is it possible that Treliving is looking at Johnson again? I don't recall but I think he was also backup goalie to Smith at one point too in Arizona.

Nothing is impossible, but given he had Johnson for the whole season last year, it's unlikely he'd need to scout him in person if re-acquiring Johnson was his goal.

There is nothing I want from Buffalo (that they'd be willing to trade). The Flames have been playing good hockey for the last dozen or so games. Why mess with something that is working?

Hopefully Treliving is just there to bump the price up for Chiarelli. Personally, I'd love to see the Oilers trade for Kane. Give up some of their limited prospect/pick capital in exchange for a 9th place finish in the west.

Girgensens makes sense for the bottom six. A big strong and still young centreman with upside. He also has history as Gaudreau's centre in the USHL, not that he's supplanting Monahan but at least they have some background on him. Pretty sure the Flames scouts watched him lots if they had their eye on Gaudreau.

That 4th line needs a serious upgrade. Get a guy like Girgensens and call up Hathaway for the RW and you've got a pretty tough line to play against.

Shipping out 4th liners for new ones, or swapping Lack for a more proven guy are the onyl necessary moves to be made at this time IMO.

Shipping out 4th liners to make room for our own 4th liners would be better. This team always seems to have a glut of junk.

Girgensons is awful.

He's terrible at faceoffs, has never even been close to being a 50% CF% or FF% player in his career, is always out-chanced by the opposition, and has had a non-existent offensive game the last couple of seasons.

As awful as our 4th line currently is, he wouldn't upgrade it at all.
