One or the other. Doing both is just wasting everyones time. Pick a direction and go with it already.

Yeah, pretty clear that Aitkins and Shaprio are going to define themselves with the next few days. That said, they came in here thanks to whoever was in charge at Rogers at the time, looking to get away from AA and the baseball decisions he was making (and driving up payroll). With Rogers and their spinning door of Blue Jays caretakers, and themselves wanting out of the Jays altogether, I get less warm and fuzzies from my already skeptical opinion of Shapiro and Aitken.
If they're trying to keep the hopes up (and thus ticket prices, advertiser dollars) etc while they sell the team, to keep it looking more viable then it is, they'll sit on Donaldson for the time being (and call it a win) and sign a guy like CC as well as some other established name to give the appearances of relevance.
In truth, as much as it hurts and signals that the 4 year+ rebuild is on, they should be asking the moon for Donaldson to a desperate Cards team who are looking to keep up in the arms race after getting rejected a few times this year from of course Stanton, Ohtani and others.
Donaldson could have an even better year and drive up the price some more, but more downside risk and the Cards need to do something this offseason for their own hubris. So they should take them to the cleaners with a couple guys that can play this year, a couple decent projects, and even cash...and not bother with CC.

Why? Here are the facts...
1: The Jays will be playing the upcoming season
2: Unless they use an unorthodox rotation they need a guy able to take the ball every 5 days
So if they trade Donaldson and start a rebuild/retool/whatever you want to call it they need a pitcher to push back the service clock on a younger pitcher so his pre-arb years will align better. If they don't... they need a pitcher of a more known quality them a rookie for that last kick at the can.
Either way they need a starting pitcher. May as well be CC... he won't insist on a long term deal nor will he break the bank. Perfect guy for their #5 spot IMO.

It's so weird to think that Sabathia has a legitimate shot of going to the Hall of Fame. He is currently at 237 wins and just have 2 sub-4 ERA seasons.
He probably isn't making it to 300, unless he goes full Jamie Moyer, but he should get 250+ before it is all over.

Shapiro just said they would have reset last year if it wasn’t for the “fans”. What a load of thrash. You didnt’t reset because Rogers instructed you to Keep the cash cow going. If management knew they should have reset a year ago, they shouldn’t have been listening to the “fans”. Sure is counterintuitive to the BS he was slinging last year when they were shouting they were ready to compete again....
FML. Why do I continue to invest emotionally into this sad sack team.

Could be worse...you could be a Marlins fan.
I get why they traded that Stanton contract but not really sure why they traded Ozuna who isn't a free agent until 2020.
Must have been a great offer from the Cardinals.

I meant 2 sub 4 ERA seasons in the last 2 seasons. Accidentally forgot that part.

Nah, owners just liquidating to get thieir money back. Jeter gets to be the face of the team (and not go to Winter meetings) to put a credible face in this screw job. And knows that the agents are looking to get their decent clients out of there ASAP.
A couple years I am guessing you see Jeter “sell”his portion and then go to work for the Yanks or Cards now that he has experience.

Which is why they kept JB but wanted nothing to do with a useful EE.

I went to a game at Marlins Park (inaugural season against the Dodgers). Probably only the 15th game ever played there and it was absolutely empty. You could hear a pin drop. My wife, who knows nothing about sports and doesn’t care about business, looked at me and asked how this team exists and how can they get such an amazing stadium. I didnt have an answer to that then, and I still don’t to this day.

It did. They made every team aware of the strain and the Angels commented that it was typical wear for a pitcher of his age.
When reached late Tuesday, Angels general manager Billy Eppler told Yahoo Sports: “Shohei underwent a thorough physical with MRI scans to both his elbow and his shoulder. Those are scans we conduct whenever we sign a pitcher. Based on the readings of those MRIs, there are not signs of acute trauma in the elbow. It looks consistent with players his age. We are pleased with the results of the physical and we are very happy to have the player.”
