Treliving took over team at the beginning stages of a rebuild and they have made the playoffs in 2 of his 3 full seasons. The prospect cupboard is in good shape asnis the cap situation. He absolutely shouldn’t be st risk of losing his job.
If this team misses the playoffs though the best will be turned up immensely.

Not sure why you react to anyone that challenges your opinions with sweeping statements like "fans can't say anything bad about Treliving"
No one is saying that. No one.
But at least come with an informed and rationale opinion.
"He's made a ton of terrible moves" isn't a complete enough critique.
From where I sit, he's made some good moves and have had some bad ones - namely with some bad free agent signings. However, on the whole I feel that the organization is in better shape now then it was in the past.
People are up in arms over the Hamonic deal - but that isn't a rental deal - Tre paid a premium to add a guy to the core who would be here for many seasons. So evaluating that trade 30 games into that tenure is premature.
People can critique the GM but in turn people can offer counter points. And when they do it isn't a "witch hunt" or people saying "you can't criticize the GM".

^^ well said Jiri, as always. Agree on the Hamonic deal, way too early to call that a bad trade. Love his compete level, how he sticks up for his teammates and how vocal he is on the bench. He's starting to play much better, he's one guy I'm not worried about at all.
But yeah some of his free agent signings I'm sure he'd want back but what GM wouldn't like a few do-overs?
Totally comfortable going ahead with Treliving as the GM here.

I just think a team with Ferland, tkatchuk, Bennett, Hathaway, Monahan, Jankowski, Brouwer, Lazar, even Backlund/Frolik can play a more in your face style. Defensively, Giordano, hamonic, stone, heck even Hamilton could be grittier.
This team isn't made up of as many soft pieces. It's a group of players who literally have no identity as a team.
A coach like Sutter won't convert them to the big bad LA kings. I have little doubt another coach would actually create an identity and gameplay that rendered an actual 'tough team to play against' rather than just regurgitating the buzz words, only to come back time after time and confess this group just 'crumples'.

Monahan, Jankowski, Backlund, Frolik and Hamilton have not shown anywhere near the disposition to play a heavy game.

If they win tonight they will have the best record they have had at this point in 4 seasons.
Why do you ask?

I liked that they made the playoffs last year...yes that was a decent result.
What is your point though?

Although I voted yes, I do think the statement I'm about to give is contradictory. I do believe Treliving assembled a good team on paper. There have been only a couple deals made which were questionable (primarily Brouwer), but all in all, when you look at the lineup, they should totally be better than they are. What I'm about to say is probably controversial, but I do think the problem has been the system of which he has to assemble. I don't see enough speed and skill on the team, and I do think that's a directive from the top (Burke) on the identity of the team - "truculent". The NHL is quickly moving to more speed and skill and certainly two way play, but the need for guys like Brouwer or guys who are neither here nor there but good two way, is a little outdated. St. Louis tried this approach for a few years, and realized you need a little more speed and top end skill to really contend. While I don't think a full rebuild would even be close in the cards, I do think a team that wants a solid d-man at the deadline can land a top 6 speedy skilled forward and combined with good minor league development, this team could turn around in no time. Burke at the top has to move the team identity away from too much "truculence" to a team with more speed, and if the fans don't push for it a little more, the old man will be set in his ways. Executing on it, Treliving has done a fine job on paper, but he has to be held accountable for the results, which has been underwhelming.

You need to take a look at a team like Nashville and look at their past seasons.
Not great.
Their young players are maturing . They have drafted well and developed well.
They have connected on three or four very successful trades.
They went to the SCF last year.
Jan 1 last season, they were not in a playoff spot. Good league.
Calgary has a lot of good young players that are still growing and developing. Let’s give them a chance to grow and lead.
I believe they will.

Point is quite simple, it’s obvious the gm believed his team was there. He was terribly wrong, and he has no good will yo fall back on.
Unless you are just full of good feelings based on future, unrealized, potential

Did you even read any of the posts you quoted.
Nashville was out of a playoff spot Jan 1 2017. Did David Poile’s team suck?
They went to the SCF.

We can’t compare teams in that sense.
What is more probable is that this team does not make the playoffs rather than making a run to the finals.
Yes it can happen, but not probable

He has been GM for 3 seasons. The team made the playoffs twice and they can make it thisnyear making it 3 of 4. When he took over the team was drafting top 10 for the second time in over 10 years. The previous 6 years the Flames missed the playoffs after 5 years of making it (4 1st round exits). The 7 years prior were again no playoffs.
How long have you been a fan of this team? Treliving has given the organization more to be optimistic about in his short time than most others who have been involved in the org for the past 25 years.

Pittsburgh did almost exactly the same thing the year before, except they won the Cup.
They were out of a playoff spot Jan 1.
If you expect teams to go wire to wire...you have a better chance following horse racing.

I need to clarify, sorry!
I’m not out to fire reliving, but rather say that he is responsible for the results.
Or am I wrong?
