I see people saying most of the criticism she gets is because she's a woman.
It's not equal and opposite as you want to make it.

Well if you read Peanuts comment shes essentially lumping all us "whiny internet dudes" into the same bin as the sexist pigs, regardless of what criticism is being put forth about Druh.
Peanut and others here also keep bringing up straw man arguments about other councillors supporting fluoride removal to dilute/deflect criticism from Druh. Her lack of veto power is totally irrelevant to her idiotic decision. And yes it would appear that Druh did quarterback this decision, as pretty much every media article about the controversy has a bold comment from Druh extolling the virtues of councils decision. She has clearly defined herself as the mouth piece and major player here - the captain goes down with the ship.
No one on here bats an eye calling Jenny McCarthy or Trump an idiot for their non-scientific positions on science based decisions. It has absolutely nothing to do with a sexist agenda.

If there isn't a sexist element at play, why is Farrell the only councilor who is referred to by her first name? I never see comments about Naheed or Sean or Jim or Joe or Ray?
I've brought it up before but you often see female politicians reduced to their first name (Rachel, Alison, Kristy, etc.) but almost never men. Justin is one, but that's because his detractors want to portray him as a little boy in a man's world.

Well, to be fair DCH and Nenshi are often reduced to less than flattering nicknames like Big Red and The Purple xxxx.

Are those a thing? Its always Redford, Notley, etc..
Druh is easy to spell which probably contributes to it and is recognizable. Is anyone referring to DCU as Diane?

If you look at serious threats to the council. Farrel and Nenshi earn the bulk of the threats. If the issue was highly correlated with sexism it should be the female councillors receiving most of the threats.
https://www.google.ca/amp/www.cbc.ca/amp/1.4259271
The data in this article is poor as it doesn't compare the same
Time line but in 2013 Farrel received lots but it has since dwindled whereas Nenshi has remained steady. There is no mention of DCH receiving any. I'd be interested to see the raw data though.
From the surface it appears it is a result of activity level and the causes chosen. Now the type of threat to Nenshi likely involves Muslim hate speech and the type towards Farrel being anti feminist hate speech but that doesn't mean that is what is driving it.

Ralph was always Ralph, Romonow was Red Roy, Lorne Calvert in Saskatchewan was Lorne.
Steady Eddy was Stelmechs nick name along with Dim Jim for insulting prentice or Dinning.
I do think calling them by their first name in many respects is used to insult them by not showing them the respect we give adults. However that is not a sexist thing.

In the political threads on this forum, they're almost always referred to by their first names (Not Colley-Urquhart, but she's not particularly a prominent figure)
Druh is easy to spell, you're right. I have a hard time believing that the spelling of Jim and Joe and Ray trip people up though.

You sound like Trump.
They use hate speech but that doesn't mean they're haters?
You completely dismiss their racist and sexist letters and emails, not to mention the death threats, as a driver for their actions.
I suppose there are some "good people" in at group?

Good lord. A female poster plays the sexism card against the forum (despite there not being a single sexist comment in the thread) to discredit the opinion of anyone who dislikes Druh the politician, and we suddenly have a riled up pitchfork gang scanning for the most superficial trivial of things to support their assertion.

Personally I think during any election all third party "campaigning" should be illegal.
No Save Calgary, no friends of health care, no environmental groups with television ads, no union ads. Nothing.
If Parties want to run negative then run negative, don't get some third party to do your dirty work for you so you can claim that you ran a "positive" campaign.

I don't think I completely dismissed the nature of the threats being received by Nenshi and Farrel at all. I am saying that it's the outcome rather than the cause. Essentially you attack a person with insults you believe will hurt them. So a feminist with back in the kitchen comments, a fat person with body shaming etc. Yes these people are using horrible rhetoric and yes they are are dispicable people however it isn't (in my opinion) the driver of the attack.
I am stating that anyone who is as outspoken and controversial as Farrel or Nenshi who always have the first quote in every article will garner the same threats back.
And as evidence I submit DCU the most blow with the wind councillor out there. She does not receive death threats like Nenshi or Farrel.
And as to why this distinction is important if you want to solve the issue you don't need to focus on Sexism and Racism but instead focus on the rational discussion of ideals as acceptable instead of the agree with me or your stupid rhetoric we have now. Nenshi especially could do a lot to help fix this on the civic level.
