A little sad to see Bouma go. He spent 10 years in the organisation and wow was he ever fun to watch in the 2014-15 season.

I thought he could still contribute in a 13th forward/injury replacement roll with money saved by putting him in the minors if needed. I suppose it is good to give Bouma and the Flames a clean slate however and hopefully the saved cap space is used wisely tomorrow.

Good riddance. He should have been sent packing after the Super Bowl thing. As a veteran player he should have known better.

I’m always amazed these sportscasters and announcers can call the game with McDavid’s **** in their mouths all the time.

Thought he was going to be be a "beauty." Not a star by any means, but a blood 'n' guts consummate team guy who did the little things well. Disappointed he didn't become that.

Damn facts. :-)

It wasn't his skating that was the problem. After he got paid, he stopped doing what he did to get paid.

Your revolution is over, Mr. Bouma. The Boums will always lose.

Hope he grabs a rug on the way out.

Between this and Murphy we already have $900k of dead cap space for next year now.
It makes sense if we're going to be within $500k of the cap this year... or maybe just leaving room for a deadline acquisition?

Bouma was a true heart and soul guy. He was as tough as nails for us during the past 9 years since he was drafted.

Wishing all the best to him as he moves on!
Thanks Lance

Disagree, unless you're advocating for dumping Johnny and Mony too. Giving extra leeway to your star players would set a very poor example going forwards, IMO.

They were rookies IIRC, he wasn't

According to some earlier posts in this thread, his isn't the only body he laid.

Yeah, he was almost 25! I know that when I was 24 and single, I was an icon of responsibility!

Hey-oooo

Seriously though, I loved Bouma. If he could have replicated his career year I would have bought a Bouma jersey, for many years he was the definition of heart and soul team first player. It's a shame he couldn't keep it up, but either way, Thanks Lance!

Rooks and newbs are held to a high standard too, and suffer the consequences just as much. See: Josh Ho-Sang

What I got out of this thread: Lance Bouma f###s.

Best of luck, Lance (unless you join the Oil or Canucks)!
I've always liked the player and he was a nice guy when I met him. In fact, he complimented me on my horrific November 'stache. Good guy.

I think most knew or suspected he would never earn this contract. This is what happens.

It happened last year—Monahan's third NHL season, and Gaudreau's second. No one was a rookie.

Nope. Season before last. Hartley was coach.

Right, it happened in 2015-16… which was Monahan's third year in the league and Gaudreau's second, exactly as Textcritic said. (I think he's still counting 2016-17 as ‘this season’, which I suppose is the best kind of correct until the contracts expire at midnight tonight.)
