They also went to the draft with hopes of acquiring Hamonic and were prepared to spend picks to get him.

This is what worries me... the team has transitioned from stockpiling picks to trading them. In a few years time they may be short on top prospects.

I dunno, bro.
Buy this used diaper of mine. I'll even throw in some old jeans and a gently worn flannel shirt.
Whether you want that old diaper is irrelevant, because I am obviously willing to give you more crap items in order to take the diaper.

Which scouts gave the green light on Hamonic? Assuming Treliving consulted his scouts on that deal. Hamonic was on the market for two seasons and no GM was willing to pay that price, what compelled Treliving to?

Your analogies are getting stranger by the day.

2012 - Jankowski looks good but still just getting started. Kulak is a 6th d-man right now, which is fine. Gillies as a goalie you can wait on but he's not a can't miss guy, the rest are write-offs.
2013 - Monahan at 6th overall and then nothing despite 2 other first rounders
2014 - Bennett at 4th overall and then nothing.
2015 - At this point, you've got some prospects but not a blue chipper or anything. Hopefully you get some depth out of Andersson or Kylington on d and Mangiapane on forward but no sure things or anyone likely to move the needle.
2016/2017 - Besides Tkachuk - way too soon to judge.

2011, getting 4 nhlers with 5 picks (all 5 played) including one superstar and another 1st liner, albeit with Vancouver, is a home run draft
2012, Jankowski looks like a top 6 center. Gillies looks like an NHL goalie and Kulak is an NHL regular. 3 NHLers in the draft means it's another great draft.
2013, Monahan obviously makes this draft a good one by himself. Poirier and Klimchuk are doing well in Stockton. It's not time to close the book on them yet. They are profiling to be okay depth players at the NHL level.
2014, Bennett is doing okay, not great. Still a lot of time for him to figure things out. Playing a lot better of late. The rest of the Burke draft was a Burke draft though.
2015, Hamilton + two top tier D prospects and one of the top AHLers right now. Fairly good.
2016, Tkachuk, Parsons, Dube, Fox, and Phillips are all looking exceptional right now.
2017, Valimaki and Ruzicka are similarly doing well.
Not every draft was great in the depth portions of them, but enough were.

Brouwer 1 goal 5 assists 4.5 MILLION per year until 2020 with a No stinking Trade clause.
And this goof is literally the most lazy dumb players on the team.
I just threw up, thanks Tre!

The bolded points are not accurate. If you weren't a Flames fan you'd think Poirier and Klimchuk are washouts and the two 2015 d-man are average prospects at best. The Poirier/Klimchuk draft is ages ago, they are what they are at this point.
2016/2017 - excluding Tkachuk - its too soon. I'd hope NHL drafted players do well in juniors or else you should get new scouts. But all of those players are years from the NHL and could go either way.

I'm beginning to think the Flames did have a deal to move Brouwer but Brouwer refused to waive his nmc.
GG knows he is stuck with him so is trying to find a way to use him.

For next season the best course of action will be:
Plan A) trade him with salary retained
Plan B) bury him in the minors for the season, and buy him out at seasons end, as the team should have alot of extra capspace that should be allocated to Tkachuk, Ferland and Bennett the following yr (buyout penalty length=2yrs + 1yr buried in minors)
Plan C) buy him out (buyout penalty length=4yrs)
Plan D) keep him on the big club playing 4th line minutes again
It wouldn't be great to have 1.5 million on the books for 4 seasons after a buyout this offseason so plan A/B are much more sensible for the team.

My Plan A is equipment allergy. Plan B is to have the LA Kings pack his bags.

4 goals so far is not bad considering he's been playing mostly on the 4th line.
He would be tied in goals with Frolik and Tkatchuk who also have 4...
he's been one of Green's trusted penalty killers too. Granlund and Beartschi has been playing really well for Vancouver, they really found a home there.

I misread the title of the thread as “Can Troy Brouwer be savaged?” Then I started reading the posts. It didn’t seem to matter.

Just bumping this thread.
Another game, another slow start. Outshot 20-5 in the first period.
Brouwer, our illustrious veteran leader. Our biggest forward. Completely absent. Again
