I'd rather sign Stone and Francois Beauchemin for the #4/5 spots for 6 million or so than waste assets going after someone else. When the acquisition cost is just $ and you have $ to spend, why not go that route. A lot of players will see Calgary as a team on the verge of becoming elite, and were mostly hampered by bad contracts that have now mostly expired. With those $ being reallocated towards quality talent, the Flames should be up there with Chicago and Minnesota for the top spot in the West.

Yeah out of those two that are rumored i would much prefer Methot. Big guy plays big, good first pass. I really think he would fit really well here, especially with the loss of Engalland
summary:
Mckenzie stresses the Flames only have SOME interest in Hamonic
Hamonic is affordable in terms of his contract but may not be affordable in terms of acquisition cost
word on street is asking price of 2 1st round picks
Flames recognize they will need to give up a 1st round pick + or a 1st round pick ++ for Hamonic
Flames are simultaneously negotiating with Stone and that might be the option they end up going with instead of Hamonic

Beauchemin? Barf. I think he's done. 37 and was horrible last year. His foot speed has fallen off. Terrible suggestion IMO. I wouldn't want him here on anything more than a tryout and even then I'd be skeptical.

Get Demers from the Panthers on the cheap since they want to clear cap space. Maybe see if you can get Kulikov, Nesterov, or Franson on a cheap short term deal for the bottom pairing. Then leave the 6/7 spots open for young guys.
No need to spend huge assets on a #4 d-man for us, our top 3 is good enough that we don't need to be desperate.
If you could go into the season with:
Gio - Hamilton
Brodie - Demers
Kulikov - Andersson
Kulak
That would be pretty damn impressive.

Hamilton had no cost certainty as he was unsigned. He was refusing a higher contract from the Bruins that the Flames eventually signed him to, which was near 6M a year. Not to mention he would be an Oiler if not for the grudges between the two teams. The Flames really lucked into him.
Hamonic, on the other hand, is making less than 4M for the near future, making him one of the best non-ELC contracts in the league when healthy. It's not fair to compare the players directly in value.
I wouldn't mind if the Flames traded two firsts for Hamonic.
I agree - it should never be used as a comparison to other trades or trade proposals unless there's a similar situation - at least CBA wise. It was a terribly lopsided trade in our favor.
My parody video about it actually got posted on both the Flames and Bruins reddits earlier in the week. I swear the Bruins fans found it funnier than the Flames did - but the vid is mostly making fun of Chiarelli and not the Bruins, so I'm not surprised.
Shameless self promotion time:

An interesting choice for the Flames might be Brayden McNabb. He's 6' 4 and 26 with one year left on his 1.7M contract. Sure he shoots left but he would fill the 5/6 roll nicely.
Judging by the Schlemko deal the ask wouldn't be high either.
This is a good idea, he is huge, if he can have a season like he did in 2015-16, than it would be worth it.
McNabb will be on the Knights opening night roster. He's one of the guys they brought to Vegas and I would bet they aren't going to move him.
