I'm just curious if a guy like Kevin has big value to a team like COL.

Giordano - Hamilton
Brodie - Stone
Jokipakka - ????????

There is lots of mention about handshake deals and the league will be watching out for this but what if the player does not want to go to vegas, knows they would be exposed and makes the decision not to sign a deal until after the expansion? I'm sure the NHLPA would support their players, would the league have any recourse for the player?

It can be something as simple as "Prior to the expansion draft they didn't offer me a Limited No Trade Clause, now they did and we agreed upon the deal".

The league can release a statement, and Las Vegas can complain, but it's not going to stop teams from doing it.
It's definitely assured we're going 7/3/1, right?

Gaudreau, Monahan, Backlund, Bennett, Frolik, Ferland, Brouwer.
Gio/Brodie/Dougie
Gillies

Stajan, Bouma, Hathaway, and Freddie exposed up front.

Stone (UFA), Wideman (UFA), Engelland (UFA), Jokipakka (RFA), Bartkowski.

The Flames are going to give Vegas absolutely nothing of value. At this point, I'd bet they take Kulak over anyone we have available at the big league level. Maybe they want some vet leadership or something so they take Stajan, but every team in the league has a Matt Stajan in some form, and they'll all be left unprotected.

The league would have to prove collusion.

For the Golden Knights, this is why they have a 48 hour window to talk to free agents prior to the expansion draft. If an unrestricted free agent indicates they won't sign with Vegas, Vegas is extremely unlikely to pick them.

I bet we could get a 3rd and a conditional 5th for him.

I think we're still in a good spot to acquire a high end talent up front as well, as even if we expose Brouwer, it's unlikely he'll be claimed.

Well, because GG obviously isn't that into Kevin & hasn't been playing him often. If he holds some value that will be diminishing as he sits in the press box. May as well explore what value he might command in a trade before that value diminishes to nil.

Does anyone else think that a Wideman trade might now be imminent? Also, I don't think its out of the question the Flames now protect 4x4 but I may be wrong.

This is definitely the year to throw that 1st on the table. Imagine if we acquired Landeskog. Then they're a goalie away from being truly legit.

Sone was #5 on the tsn trade bait list.

Interesting that his cost was so low.

I wouldn't be mad if we lost Ferland or Brouwer if that means we pick up a forward to play with John Monahan and Seany Gaudreau.

But isn't

Brodie - Stone
Engelland - Wideman

Even better than what you wrote down? I'm happy to see Wideman gone, but this year, only if he's gone to free up room to fill another hole in this roster.

If not, might as well wait until he just expires in the offseason.

I'm flattered, but there are more important guys to protect.

I would have expected closer to a 2nd at least.

I like this deal for both sides, Arizona regains their 3rd round pick with the possibility of a 5th for a pending UFA. Calgary picks up a legit NHL defenseman for a 3rd, fair to good value, and half salary retained which leaves them room for further depth moves.

Happy with the Stone pickup. Solidifies our top 4, for sure.

I will be happy with just his contract expiring at the end of the year.
