Hahahaha! And of course they assume, just like the rest of us, that it was the Coyotes.

Burke calling a 27 y/o John Chayka an idiot? I could see that. It is a complete joke of a hire by the coyotes.

You guys are being way too specific. I can see Burke calling anyone an idiot that he thinks is an idiot.

Chiarelli and Burke are friends. I love to rail on the Oilers but I see it as originating in either Phoenix or Miami.

I am of the very few fans who think that a trade was in the works or that the Flames were shopping Hamilton.
There was a massive level of bark and anger coming from the Flames side on NATIONAL media from what we know as was a phone call to the Flames to see if he was available and a potential crap offering. This scenario in my opinion happens all the time and happens with increased levels of activity when teams are crapping the bed bad like the Flames were at the start. So what if another team offered a low ball offer? Do we believe the Flames offer the moon when looking to get players in trades?
This link from Spector has some quotes from some scouts and I can def. see that being the case with Hamilton. The Flames signed him to a major contract and the results in his season and a half haven't been top notch. Remember, this is also a guy who's earning over a million a year extra that Brodie.
I like Hamilton but sometimes the love affair with some players is mind boggling. IF you can replace him for 60% of his AAV with a similar player, don't sit here and tell me the Flames are going to keep him around cause he's a "good kid"
I just think something happened that the Flames weren't happy got out. Leaks are leaks and they come from team employee's and players, nothing special about this particular leak other than Burkie losing it on multiple media outlets.

The anger isn't about the ####ty offer, it's about an idiot GM that thought by spreading that Hamilton was being shopped it would lower the asking price.
And as said my pretty much every reputable source the Flames have not been shopping Hamilton, you can come up with your own narrative but there is absolutely no reason not to believe the Flames since literally every media source has backed up that he hasn't been shopped.

You're one of few because as you explain your reasoning is all based on speculation, unlikely "if scenarios" and reaches.

Absolutely. The problem here is that there are no "similar players" who are making only 60% of Hamilton's AAV. His is a contract for a really good player to grow into, and I am fairly confident that he will.

Just a few corrections on your thoughts.
- Brodie is on a steal of a contract, you could make 50+ cases of defensemen being overpaid in this league if you're using Brodie as the comparable.
- The Flames aren't hanging on to Dougie Hamilton because "he's a good kid", that's asinine. They are hanging on to him because he's a huge asset, with huge upside (some of which we're already seeing) that they invested heavily in.
- There aren't players kicking around that bring what Hamilton brings in current and potential future play for 60% of the price that are available. Not even close.

I too tend to be alone when I believe something that is contrary to all available information only to suit my own personal narrative.
Its annoying.
