Im pretty sure any player given the pp time and ice time he was the last couple years could put up 40 points. Tell me how hes been defensively

Go talk to Dennis Wideman last year. How many points did he put up given all his PP time and ice time? How about Kris Russell?
What you're saying simply isn't true.

He was more productive, per PP ice-time, than any of the the other Flames' defensemen last year.
He was 22nd in points among defensemen, but was 27th in PP points among defensemen, and was 34th in PP ice-time among defensemen. So he got his points more efficiently than most, he didn't simply get points due to PP time.

There was also the indisputable fact that the PP got substantially better last year, after Wideman's ice-time was transferred to Hamilton

When you completely dismiss what a player does well and overstate his deficiencies it's no wonder it's easy to be as bonkers as you've been.

Simple question: What team would pick up Patrick Kane and his 10.5 mill cap hit if put on waivers?
Besides trading an asset for him the only team I can see is Carolina and then the list gets very short with maybe the Devils.
I guess it has to be a salary dump trade for Kane. I guess it all depends on his GRIT factor in the end so I am guessing he stays put in Chicago and they suffer the consequences of having him on their team.

Names kid, provide some names. Who is a legitimate option to trade Hamilton for that the Flames can bring in. Keep in mind that you've said Hamilton is bad defensively, was fed PP points, and has an anchor contract.
So which team is chomping at the bit to send us their top line RW for such a player?

Phaneuf was a guy who benefitted when his minutes were cut. I think Hamilton is the opposite. I think the same can be said about Engelland, who just needs to practice zone exits continuously until he can do them. If he did that, Hamilton and Engelland are actually an effective pairing IMO.

He's been adequate defensively. Nothing spectacular in either direction. His positioning is usually solid but he has a habit of puck watching and losing his man from time to time which gets him in trouble.
Last game on the first goal he played the middle of the ice well and Elliott just didn't make the save. He had a goal go in off of him while he was in perfect position protecting the front of the net. He's had his partner lose their man and score while he protected his side.
He also has let guys get behind him to score, on at least 2 occasions I can think of. He has pinched at bad times and left his forward out to dry covering his position.
He also leads defensemen in hits but is -8 on giveaways/takeaways. He does a decent job of holding the blue line of the offensive zone, better than Brodie this year but still worse than Gio.
He still makes mistakes no doubt, but he also makes some good plays.
Really he plays like a 23yr old offensive defenseman.

Thank you for telling us how easy it is for anyone to put up 40 pts with so much PP time. Bravo.
If you can't get the first half right, people will focus on it right away. I am probably not alone that the 2nd sentence in your post was glossed over as I was shaking my head.

Hard to remember, it's been so long, but in January of last year the Flames had a league-worst powerplay.
By the end of the season they had improved to 22nd.
The difference was almost entirely Hamilton over Wideman.

I would actually like to see the numbers monthly on their own. Not sure where to look that up.
IIRC, the PP was doing well by late November, but was so putrid to start that it affected the average for quite some time. Maybe it was December? I can't quite remember, but it was doing ok even when Wideman was still on it. Can anyone come up with monthly numbers?

You can select a date range for team stats on the NHL website and then click "Sum Results Over Time Frame"
I am too lazy to do this

Currently injured (concussion), has been playing second line LW this year. Currently at .5 PPG, like last year. So around the same production as Hamilton (except not a defenceman).
BTW, who plays defence in Hamilton's spot?
