Holly crap. I suddenly hope Versteeg is lining up next to Bennett and Brouwer tomorrow. Some of you taking it very personal that someone might suggest TKachuk might not be on that line. Regardless of logic or lack of behind it, why so mad? You guys laminate your starting line up cards already?

I'd rather Ferland than Versteeg in that spot.

I really like this actually as it provides just more options for the forward group going into the season. Low cost, no risk really.

Well now that this has been confirmed I can weigh in.

We just added a solid 30 points to the lineup, all for the cheap price of $950K. Decent possession player. Not big, but not a soft player either. If nothing else, this gives us some depth on the wings. BTW, Versteeg has played both wings in the past, but obviously is more comfortable with the RW.

I say give him a shot on the top line at some point. Perhaps he's a better fit in a depth role, but maybe he catches fire with Johnny and Monny. I have a feeling we'll be cycling a few guys into that spot over the first couple of weeks since there was no opportunity to build chemistry in camp with either player. Possible options on the top line (in order of preference): Tkachuk, Ferland, Versteeg, Frolik, Chiasson.

Also, I love that we snaked him from the Oilers who were trying to negotiate a deal with him. It would be even better if we found out later that the Flames offered less money than the Oilers.

Nope - more like a guy they had a shot at but didn't get. Like a lesser Hamilton acquisition.

I love how we scooped up the only NHL calibre depth the oilers had on RW after Eberle. Typical of them to assume Puljuarvi can step into a top 6 roll.

This team is looking more and more like the Blackhawks when they began their dynasty run.

I love it!

I have always loved Versteeg's game and have said on CP in years past that I never understood why Versteeg can't stick with a team... He has MAD MAD skills and and soft mits.

If he plays with Johnny and Monny, that could win BT GM of the year in just that one move. (Probably not)

But I seriously love what BT has done today and over this last week and summer...

So pumped!

Nobody's mad, it was as you stated "lack of logic behind it" that has people questioning legitimacy, nothing more.

Fair deal. They have their Kris and now we have our Kris and tomorrow our Kris will spend the entire night skating round their Kris.

So, does this mean there is no room for Bollig under the cap?

Well that's dumb, Versteeg scored more than twice as many points last year in roughly the same amount of games.

Many Oilers fans I have seen have Draisatl moving over to the wing on the second line.

Ferland is a young, developing, improving player. What would be dumb would be assuming he can't improve on those totals.

Versteeg as a lesser 35 point version of himself is still a better offensive player then Ferland will ever be.

No need to throw the crash and bang winger on his off wing just because.

Wandered over to the HF Oil Versteeg thread. Now covered in salt. Versteeg is a dick, he played the Oilers, Chia is bad gm, they never really wanted him, he's no big deal.

I don't want to side track this thread but Ferland is an offensive black hole who should never play top 6. He's fine in a bottom 6 role when he's playing hard and smart but the guy is not talented enough to play in scoring role.
