Granlund has the great release, and he is probably a better playmaker than some give him credit for. However, he just doesn't have enough speed to get open and generate offense in today's NHL.
In pre-season, when things are a little slower, and there are AHL defensemen on the ice, he always looks great. He has done this every year.
Then the season starts, and the speed slowly ramps up. And by US Thanksgiving, he struggles to be effective.
