It would take a major performance, but don't count out Andre De Grasse to do something spectacular.

.@OleksiakPenny can set a record for the most medals won by a Canadian swimmer at a single Olympics if she wins another in the 100 free.

I'm no swimming expert, and I assume these athletes are used to swimming multiple races, but Penny seemed completely gassed at the end of that race. Hopefully she still has some juice in the tank for tomorrow!

Luckily for her and us she has no qualifying races tomorrow afternoon, so she'll have a full day to recover.

That's right. With swimming and athletics as the two biggest events of the Games traditionally Swimming is week 1 and the major athletics events start amping up after it's finished.

thanks for the updates. I'm at the airport and streaming is intermittent. Really appreciate everyone's posts in here.

And to answer the question above, my recollection is that the swimming and gymnastics are week one, handing out a pile of medals, with the track and field events week 2.

Really tough game for Sam Shacter. Just not getting his kills, missing serves, not getting blocks. Beat by a better team unfortunately.

Love it.
As I like to remind everyone, present success doesn't guarantee future results. So sponsors, viewers, trainers etc can't automatically assume that, because this has been such a wonderful Olympics in the pool so far, that the athletes can just coast onto the podium in Tokyo in 4 years.

No, as a public we need to ensure that funding is maintained and the swimmers have continued support from day 1, not four years from now. That means start prepping for Worlds next year in Budapest right away.

It also means the public needs to let the sponsors know their dollars are going to the right place. That's done by keeping viewership up, increased attendance at nationals and other swimming events. And other things like donating time/money, watching on TV, demanding live coverage etc.

This is so true.... I see the passion we have as a country during the Olympics, but there's no reason that things like Aquatic World Championships shouldn't be followed closely by the sports fans of this country. We do a better job supporting these athletes than a lot of countries, but we can absolutely do better.
