The only way gun reform will be palatable for the GOP us if they can blame it on a minority. GOP leadership can't be left holding the bag on this, but if there is a way to pin this on a reaction to race violence it could be begrudgingly accepted.
But I doubt it.

Is anybody else low key hoping the shooters are not black? Cause I'm kinda hoping.

Is that true? Obviously my personal experience negates it, but I've also never seen any statistics suggesting the US is less safe for tourists than third world countries (in fact, I've seen the opposite, even from non-US sources).

And some say gun violence isn't rising in the US, hard to believe looking at a stat like that.

Wow. I didn't know he was a former congressman. The fact that he was in a position of authority makes the tweet even worse!

Sadly, I think Trump will be touting more guns and I bet his poll ratings go up.

I heard it on a news Radio show, don't remember the numbers but it was stated that gun violence has been going down since the early 90s in the US. The gang killings and such in the US in the 90s was insane.

From what I recall it's slightly up in all categories vs 2015, which was slightly up vs 2014 - total deaths, injuries and officer-involved shootings.

well, and gun sales have continued to grow since 2001 from a high of 754K just after 9/11 to a high of 2 million in January 2013, just after sandy hook...
that's per month.
typical sales have increased from 600k per month to 1.2 million per month.yeah.... guns are really making the US safer
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...trictions.html
mass shootings have increased; i think that's pretty indisputable...

There are less households in America that have guns than had them 40 years ago.
The people who DO own guns however have compensated for those without. It is not terribly difficult to acquire a small arsenal for a relatively small amount.

A friend in Idaho took me out to shoot his AR15 as I was curious. We had trouble finding ammunition because the talk at the time was about gun control. People were stocking up.

Gun crime in general is in decline but mass shooting incidents have sharply increased in the last 20 years and even further in the last decade.

no surprises there... obama has actually caused people to buy more guns because they are worried about gun control coming in...
i have zero issue with rifles for hunting... handguns and AR-15s available for the general public? No thanks

Which, honestly, has been the typical demographic of the larger mass shootings in recent memory. For it not to be that would be anomalous.

It's pretty crazy on Reddit r/news it's all people defending guns saying "well after all this, the world is better place to live in today!!".
I'm starting to think that nothing will change America anytime soon....

There has to be some kind of training involved. This isn't a drug dealer with a pistol that's angry at the police. This is a trained sniper picking people off from an elevated position.
Someone on another forum suggested ex-military, another suggested a Neo-Nazi attempting to increase racial tensions further. Any and all of these sound pretty feasible.
This isn't a random attack, this had to have some planning involved.
