Credit to #Preds ownership, too. Paid $56m of 14-yr, $110m deal to Weber in first 4 yrs, still willing to move on. Was tough ticket to match
The Preds' owners might not spend to the cap. But they deserve full kudos for making this trade. Hard to move from someone like Weber when you have so much money invested in him.
Is Subban's contract front loaded too? If it is, that's some crazy money ownership will have spent upfront for both players, for a team that's not known to be a cap team.

As per my friend @Sz1909_Szemberg, the Subban for Weber trade comes 26 years to the day after Chris Chelios was dealt to Chicago.
Time to paraphrase a classic Jacques Lemaire quote from the 2003 Wild/Canucks series:
There's only one reason why the Montreal Canadiens traded P.K. Subban. I can't talk about it, but you all know what it is.
Think I'm done cheering for this organization for a while. It's obvious that, to the team and to a large portion of the fanbase, what players look like and which language they speak mean more than what they can do on the ice. Maybe this is too much for me to ever come back from - the way they've treated the most exciting player on the ice, and the most kind and generous to the community off it, that the team has had in a decade has been nothing short of reprehensible.

Worse trade since Roy for the habs? No disrespect to weber, they are fairly equal now, weber may even have the edge today, but it's just too much to give up long term
Weber is still an amazing defenseman, he's a legit top pairing star. But brutal trade for Montreal, Subban is better, younger and not nearly as beat up as Weber
I'd be furious as a Habs fan. Whether it's the owners meddling or the coach winning a dispute with a player, this is a brutal trade
