Of course not. Many people toss out the ''he's never won anything'' phrase, while conveniently ignoring his 8 division titles, 1 president trophy, and countless championships in other leagues. Those people are probably the same people who think Joe Thornton ''hasn't won anything'' because he has no cup, yet ignore his trophy case. Same with Ovechkin "Dude hasn't won anything".
Calgary hasn't won a division title in 10 years. I'd be overjoyed with one, let alone a president's trophy.
Fact is, Bruce Boudreau has by far the best resume of everyone on the poll. People can pretend they've watched a million other off-the-board coaches, but fact is we have a great sample size with Boudreau. So what if he's lost a bunch of game 7s? The Flames aren't even close to being in one. As Burke said, we learn to crawl, then walk, then run, then sprint. Pushing Boudreau away because he hasn't won a game 7 is ridiculous considering we aren't even a playoff team. Let's cross that bridge when we get there.
If Treliving does go off the board to hire his own guy, I'll trust his judgement and leave it at that. But as of right now, with the personnel that are available at present in front of us, Big Bruce is the best choice.
This is your best post ever IMO.

Before anyone gets carried away with the "Burke loves Eakins" talk let's not forget two things. Brad Treliving will be hiring the new head coach and when Eakins was coaching the Marlies, Burke passed him over to hire Carlyle so maybe he only loves him as a friend.

Should we hire Troy Ward? Most agree he's better than Huska but was let go because he wanted to win rather than coach Hartley's system. Well now Hartley's system is why he's gone...
He also got the best results Ortio has ever gotten, Wotherspoon also came up under him along with Brodie et al.

I actually don't mind the idea of Ralph Kreuger. He was actually making the Oilers look like a team to be concerned about when MacTavish decided to go with the flavour of the month in Eakins.

All for Sutter but that's a long shot. Fully agree with Huntingwhale regarding BB.
Eakins I can maybe see as an assistant. He was hot on many teams lists as an assistant, which prompted Lowe, who usually takes cues from what may get home the most personal PR, to make "Bold Moves" and hire him as a headcoach, and with a bunch of no-confidence losers that Todd McClellan can't coach two years later.
Eakins will be back in the league at some point soon. Probably Krueger too if he wants to move away from English Football.
Not sure on Dineen.Got the Hockey Canada connections (coach the Women's Olympic team when the players revolted over Wickenheiser) going which is fine (save Nicholson) but just not sure if that's the move to make.
I think there needs to be a recent history of success in the NHL that the coach can point to (whether he was an assistant or head coach). A lot easier to get your message across when you have that success to back up your credentials. Hartley (and Keenan before him) had thier last successes a full decade before they got hired by the Flames.
They were discussing Ryan Huska on the radio today. What are your guys thoughts on him?
Doubtful he's in consideration IMO. He's fairly green as a pro coach. I would think if we go for someone from the AHL that it would be someone with more a proven track record of winning at that level. I'd imagine he'll coach Stockton again next year.

Huh? Playfair's year came just a year after Sutter won the division.
I'm all for giving Playfair a second chance but the core was not rotten in the year 2007.
Playfair was widely disrespected in the locker room. Wasn't he referred to as "JP21" or something other in a childish way? He also benched Amonte during the playoffs that year, and the team openly rebelled and forced Playfair to apologize. He never had the room, and Darryl had to replace him immediately.
With that being said, Playfair is a very good defensive-minded coach. He is (or was) a yeller, though. Remember that Brodie got side-coaching from Ward when Playfair was the headcoach in Abbotsford, and would yell at Brodie. Ward would take Brodie aside and explain to him what Playfair was demanding.
I wouldn't be totally against Playfair - I think he would fit some basic checklist as to what the Flames want in a coach - but he wouldn't be my first choice for sure, or even in the top 5 or 10 I can think off the top of my head. I also don't know if or how he has changed either, what he was in charge of in Phoenix, etc. I know he was the Associate Coach, but other than the title, I can only guess he was responsible for the defencemen?
Talk about Playfair and no one has posted this yet?
