Having 5 picks in the top 66 is great regardless. I am under the assumption that Bleackley doesn't get resigned.

That should get us at least two NHL players if they keep them and the scouts do a decent job like they have since 2011.

As the Flames near the end of the rebuild (hopefully) it becomes crucial to hit on these picks. They will be the cheap depth guys that play a big impact on the contending teams in 2019.

I'm still thinking that the Flames need to get more impact players, not depth players. I don't mean all-stars but one or two guys who can play in the top 6 and not look out of place. I think guys like Ferland, Bouma, Jooris and to an extent Shinkaruk are depth guys at best. Shinkaruk could turn into a top 6 winger but it's still not a guarntee. The faith I once had in guys like Porier, Klimchuck, and even Hunter Smith is starting to dwindle and I don't see too many guys to be impact players in the future. I think the Flames need to swing for the fences with these picks and either take high risk picks or swap them for top 6 guys like Nichushkin, Hayes, Strome, Coyle, and guys like that. It would be great to get any one of those guys because they'd help right now when the team really needs it.

I'd also be game for moving most of our picks and/or current players to move up to #3 pick if at all possible.

I don't see the Flames moving up into the top 3 it will just cost too much. They might be able to move up 1-2 spots but not sure if it is worth it.

I can see them using their seconds as currency on a goalie and/or top 6 winger.

This is a huge summer for Treliving. Firing Hartley is step one but he needs to make some personnel moves if he hopes to move this team forward.

I hope we can move 35 and 55 and maybe get Toronto's second first rounder (Pens) if they are looking for depth.

There hasn't been any official announcement, but it looks like the Coyotes did not sign Bleackley.

Picks are now the following with Bleackley compensation.

54th OA - Panthers 2nd
56th OA - Stars 2nd
66th OA - Flames 3rd
96th OA - Flames 4th
126th OA - Flames 5th
156th OA - Flames 6th
166th OA - Wild 6th
186th OA - Flames 7th

I guess the fact that he was drafted by COL and then traded to ARZ is irrelevant?
The compensation is carried over to ARZ?
Regardless of the fact that they didn't waste the draft pick in the first place?

No, but they traded Boedker to Colorado and the incoming 2nd round pick was part of the package acquired.

Would Bleakley be a good pick at 54/56?

No, his draft+1 and draft+2 stats are not great. I would rather take an 18 year old with better numbers.

It is official now:

Mike Morreale @mikemorrealeNHL
Chayka told me that ARZ won't sign Bleackley to an ELC. Red Deer frwrd can reenter draft. ARZ gets 2nd Rd pick -

Quote:
"We're going to take the compensation pick," Chayka told NHL.com at the NHL Scouting Combine. "There's a lot of value in that pick. That's not to diminish anything Conner has done or the type of player he is. He had a good Memorial Cup. He's a good player, but at this point [the draft pick] is a more valuable asset for us."
Arizona gets the 53rd pick in the 2016 draft, thus shifting all picks that were previously 53rd or later down one spot.

I was a fan of Bleakley in his draft year. I liked his intangibles & versatility.

With all these picks to use I see no harm in using a late 2nd to snag him if he's still available.

If we can get him with Dallas' 2nd, I'd be ok with that.

Bleakley at 96 I would be fine with if he's still there.

RH shot that could turn out to be a good bottom 6 guy who provides energy and still has some skill.

His numbers have declined in each of the two seasons since he was drafted... why would we use a 2nd on him, again?

I totally agree, why are we picking him in the upcoming draft?

totally agree. Unless we select him in the 6th round, I don't see a point.
