Toronto - Their re-build has shown two things, they will spend money to acquire assets but have no desire to win yet. Plus Bernier is still around.
I think if the Flames came in with an offer of 2 year 2-3 mill, they should get him.

Ya those would be the other 3. Toronto seems pretty high on Sparks so maybe they go with Bernier and Sparks next year. Arizona seemed high on Domingue - not sure if that will change and Carolina seems to be in no man's land if they decide to go with Lack.
Raanta would seem to fit with us with anyone.
Ramo/Raanta (not my first choice but I'd take it)
Mason/Raanta
Reimer/Raanta
Andersen/Raanta
Edit: or Raanta/trade for other low cap hit option with upside.
It will be interesting to see what goes down this summer. Other than the draft, the biggest item on Treliving's to do list.

I think if you go for and get Raanta then you need to trust yourself and spend any assets of Reimer (cap space) or Mason/Andersen (trade for).
If he works out great, if not then no one can blame BT cuz at least he tried.
Plus, the Flames need to get away from spending 8+ million on goalies. If cheap Raanta works out then you've hot the jackpot.

Ya we can't overpay/over commit with the cap cruch. If you signed Raanta for the 2-3 x 2, what would you do for the other spot? Get Ramo back for cheap or something else?

I think it's time to move on from Ramo. He was decent but not good enough. Need a fresh face.
I think you bring in another guy like Gustavsson, Enroth, Khudobin, Montoya etc. for around a million mark. That have already had their opportunity but didn't seize and now are known backups. You also bring back Ortio if Hartley is gone (he won't get a fair shake with Hartley's around).
Hopefully all goes to plan, Raanta ensures he is the #1 in training camp and winner of Ortio/other signee gets the backup job. 3rd person gets waived and backs up Gillies.

Having a Goaltending duo Cap hit of a combined 3-4 million would be awesome but BT will have pressure to have a solid tandem next year after what happened this year. I'm all for it though.

Oh good god I hope we stay away from Remier. Not a fan at all. That said the dream is Matt Murray but I'd also be happy with Subban, Bishop or Mason.

I'd be okay Reimer if we got him for under 5m per. Raanta is intriguing as well.
If we were going to target Ward, we might as well just keep Ramo. I see them as similar at this point.
|
I'm not sure of Reimer as the #1 as I'll leave that up to Treliving but I wouldn't shy away from paying a #1 goalie $6M per. Having Ortio or Poulin as the backup at less than $1M per would still be cheaper than paying our current goalies of Ramo and Hiller a total of $8.3M per.

Best case scenario is Raanta/Andersen going into next season.

For all those(or 1 in particular) that think that the Flames did not aggressively pursue a goalie at the draft, you are wrong.
The Flames were actively after Talbot and Lehner(thank god they failed).
Goaltending was an issue last off-season also. They prioritized Dougie Hamilton over the goalie options with their #1 pick.
Understandably, after upgrading failed, they went into this season with the same goalies from last season, and a wild card, and expected the goaltending to be at least equal to last season.
Again, this was understandable.
The 3 goalie mess was a fail.
The lesson learned is:
Poop or get off the pot. Get a goalie, commit to a goalie, or get out!
Don't fiddle with extras, and hope for the best. I think this was a failing plan.
If the Flames acquired Talbot or Lehner at the draft, then went to camp with Lehner/Talbot+Ortio+Hiller, it would have been ok. But if they broke camp with all 3, it's the same FAIL!

I think we have very good trade bait in our 2nd or a potential Stars 1st to try and land Andersen. I am concerned what his contract demands may be though.
Another thing to point out, with the cap crunch next season as much as I do not want Bernier it may be a prudent decision as the Flames would be able to move salary in a deal to offset the cost; where as a free agent signing (or trading for Andersen) would result in just added salary.

I'd be fine if we could do Raymond for bernier or something like that. Raymond is useless but if he was the backup at least he'd serve a purpose. I mean if his money was spent on a backup not if he actually was our backup lol. Same thing with Bolig, if his salary can be exchanged for a backup, I'd be fine with that.

Raanta or Bishop are the goalies I want Treliving to target, likely in the minoroty here but I would also like Ramo back as a 1b, he's still a capable NHL goaltender and was far and away our best goalie over the last 2 seasons. Hiller can go. Interested to see how Ortio handles himself over the last 20 games, if he can put up solid play and numbers over 15 or so starts maybe he makes Ramo redundant (with the signing of Bishop or Raanta)

Why would anyone even consider signing Ramo after nearly 8 months of rehab from surgery? Do you think he'd be anywhere near ready for NHL level hockey? I'm sure it will be a long time before he trusts that leg enough to play hard on it.

I don't think anyone will sign Ramo to anything but a PTO.
He is going to have to go to an NHL training camp and earn an NHL contract IMO.

I'd give bernier a chance if the took the same or more salary back. Any goalie would suck in the leafs, maybe he could be better here. And is only want him as a 1b spot, that cap space is wasted on Raymond anyway.

Here's a list of UFA and RFA goalies this year:
http://www.rosterresource.com/nhl-fr...-goalies-2016/
Maybe the Flames won't have to trade for a decent(or better) goalie.
