Damn. I was a big Granlund fan but can freely admit he hasn't really put it together fast enough. How many years of extra RFA does this buy between the two? Two years?

Cool to see a CGY kid come to the Flames as well.

WTH is with the Flames and Nucks making these trades with eachother?

One theory I see going around is that Baertschi made Shinkaruk expendable for the Canucks.

Granlund will be a player now for the Canucks but why not give Shinkaruk a chance at the NHL level before trading him. Not exactly sure what the Canucks master plan is.

The 2011 draft keeps getting more interesting.

First, the Tim Erixon fiasco brought the Flames a couple 2nd round draft picks.

In the first round they take Baertschi. Eventually traded to bitter rivals the Canucks.

In the 2nd round they take Granlund. Eventually traded to bitter rivals the Canucks for a hometown player who had many on the board adamant about drafting him or not drafting him.

Wotherspoon is taken in the 2nd.

Gaudreau goes in the fourth round. Becomes an All-Star.

And Brossoit goes in the sixth round, traded to bitter rivals the Oilers in the only trade between the two. Brossoit goes on to become crowned the next goaltending saviour for Edmonton.

He's a great goaltender, would be a perfect fit for the Canucks. They could probably make the playoffs with him this year.

It's the Miller and Hiller show! Can you imagine - there would be Stanley Cup riots x3!!

Canucks traded away a former Medicine Hat Tiger?

If you get a mystery box and it turns out to be a Nissan Versa and not the Ferrari, do you settle with the versa or do you go with another mystery box?

MYSTERY BOX.

I think that was always the long term plan.

It's a tough situation when you have a kid who is too good to go back to junior but might not be ready to play centre in the NHL vs guys like Getzlaf, Kopitar, etc. And you can't shelter them from match ups unless you're at home. Even Joe Thornton started on the wing on the 4th line in his first year.

Now that the season is lost the coaches can start teaching young Benny how to be an NHL centre.

Granlund is a fringe NHLer. Too average to play in top 6, not big enough to play in bottom. Shinkaruk has potential to be a top sixer. Good trade.

Since you've changed avatars, I'm reading all of your posts in Nenshi's voice. Can't help it...

Hunter on TSN 1040 notes:

-little bit of shock, never gone thru this
-Had a year and a half in Utica, thoroughly enjoyed organization
-lot of emotions right now-Calgary is my hometown
-I never tried to think about where I was in Vancouver's plans
-just tried to become a better player
-it will be very cool to play in Calgary.....a team I grew up idolizing and was always around, definitely a cool feeling going to your hometown, but still in shock for sure
