He seemed really unconcerned with it on the bench. Which is exactly how I would expect a player to react after accidentally running into a ref at any point during a game.
I also think it's important to remember that Weidman probably believes that it's the refs job to get out of his way. The players typically have the right-of-way on the ice.

I posted in the GT but I'll mention it again here -- if you watch the clip, you'll see the Nashville player ends up with the puck and is skating directly towards Wideman as he's making his way to the bench. No awareness or reaction from Wideman at all -- he doesn't play the man, he doesn't avoid the linesman, and he doesn't hurry off to complete the long change.
It's only the very last second before he makes contact that he reacts to something -- either the linesman or the oncoming Nashville player (or both).
Also, his non-reaction after contact as well as sitting on the bench suggest that he has no recognition of what just happened. If he was thinking clearly but it was an accidental contact you'd think he'd have some concern for the fallen linesman. Or if he snapped and was looking to hit someone he wouldn't be sitting on the bench with literally no expression on his face.

Looked to me like someone who got hurt, wasn't 100% with it got startled and reacted. I'm sure he thought it was a Pred who was hitting him.

I like how you think you know how the "Wheel Of Justice" will land.
I just hope this gets Wideman off the PP.

So HFboards gets Moon from CP and Calgarypuck gets TheScorpian from HF.
Two of the most unbearable posters I've witnessed on hockey message boards.

Do you even know how to skate? Do you realize how often players run into each other at the last second because you can't just stop without positioning yourself?

Well sure, if he was thinking clearly at the time and he had enough time to react properly.
Sometimes it just works out that way. Lots of car accidents are made worse by people doing the wrong thing in the milliseconds they have to react.

What, just because our opinions are different?
That's not an appropriate basis for an attack like that.

Zero games. Clip is 100% out of context. Some of the reactions in here astound me

Its almost like wideman thought it was a preds player when he decked the official. I believe him when he says it was unintentional. But you are responsible for your actions.
Typical of how this season has gone that something like this would happen

I just looked at the replay again - the full one, with the full view - and it does look like Wideman at least attempts to move around the ref. His skates do appear to move.
Still - why even thrust out your arms?

I can't wait for the thread thescorpion starts after to complain that Wideman wasn't punished to his liking.

LOOKS totally intentional to me. The only reason I'm doubting my eyes is the lack of ref reaction. It's not like he would not notice what just happened.
I agree that in any case Wiseman shouldn't be playing for his own safety.

Its called protecting/bracing yourself for a hit.
Its human nature.

Total BS. Maybe if that player was Carcillo, Burrows, Torres, or Cooke. Has Wideman ever been suspended before? I can't seem to find any history. Either way, the guy's not a hothead and deserves a little benefit of the doubt. Has absolutely nothing to do with what team he plays for, in my case.

Because if you look up and see someone coming at you the last second you automatically brace for the contact.

Even though you were making fun of the other poster's skating ability, you make a good point. Wideman is a TERRIBLE skater, he can barely stop even when he has his wits about him.
