interesting stat. If gaudreau gets injured for the season his 66 points will still be ahead of halls current pace to finish the season.

The same reason Hudler is listed as a LW. He may play it, but for his time with the Flames anyways, he was pretty much exclusively RW.
ovechkin shoots right and both have always played LW. U might be confusing benn with seguin who occasionally plays RW

Benn plays left wing, and Ovechkin is right handed and plays on the off side.

Ovechkin shoots right. Playing left wing allows him a better shooting angle on his forehand.

Hudler was drafted as a centre and played LW in Detroit. He's left shooting. We moved him to the off wing because smart european skilled wingers can often pull that off (or sometimes prefer it) and we had few natural RWs.

Benn plays LW/C. Last game I watched Brett Ritchie was the right shooting RWer on that line.

Ovechkin's almost-exclusively played RW since the Oates years, while Benn flip-flops between the left and right sides but seems to play more on the right.

Source? I think you may be wrong on this one.

Trotz moved him back to LW when he took over last year.

I probably am. I've been looking to find a source, but they're all saying Benn's a LW.

As you were. I still like Johnny, and maybe he's even as good as Benn.

Yeah I thought he shot left for some reason

Yeah I know this, but that would still make him a RW for the purposes of "who is best?" As it implies what they play at that present moment (not sure what he plays in FLA).

Either way, the point is that what their hockeydb or NHL.com page says isn't necessarily an indicator of what they are currently playing. Personally I just consider them all wingers. IMO, any NHL winger should be able to play both sides with relatively close proficiency. Everyone will have their preference, but there shouldn't be much lost going to the opposite side, regardless of handedness.

I think the same thing about D. It's nice to play your regular side, but it's not a necessity. And some even prefer the opposite (Brodie)

Didn't Hudler have to play center for a stint with Cervenka? Those were the days.

That's both incorrect. Ovechkin has played LW since Oates left.

Hahahahaha, yes.

If memory serves, that was the Glencross - Hudler - Cervenka line. Probably the 'best' line on the team.

At least he is one of the top 3 LW in the game today. A couple of years of experience and development and Johnny could soon be argued as the top LW.

Once Ovi's play starts to decline, then yes he will be. Ovechin, love him or hate him, is quickly becoming a legend of the game. Johnny will become a superstar in this leauge in his prime, but I don't think he'll become a legend.

Yes, I realize those are subjective descriptions, but I don't care.

Does OV not play LW on power plays as he gets a lot of goals off one timers from the left side.

He's played LW his whole career except for a brief stint with Oates as coach.

gaudreau is probably 3rd best LW right now and will overtake benn soon. Maybe even as early as next season

I would just say that Gaudreau is the most-skilled LW'er at the moment. Just purely skilled.

Both Benn and Ovechkin are in that next grouping ahead of him. Gaudreau may get there one day, but as it stands now, he isn't. No shame in that at all. Without a question, he is definitely one of the best LW'ers in the game, probably the most purely skilled LW'er, and one of the league's most dynamic and exciting player.
