I believe Logan Couture was cut from two team Canada rosters after going 9th OA in 2007.
edit: nvm he wasn't even invited to the selection camps

Has Virtanen been that bad for Van? Is he not playing?
I haven't watched 10 seconds of Vancouver games other than when we play them

Bad year to be a Flames goaltender. Hope McDonald can pull it together because that first game against the US will probably set the stage for the rest of the tournament.

Without getting labelled ignorant. What body of work is he touted so highly for? I know he had a good showing at the U18s a couple years ago but this year and last his numbers dont seem great (last year was better). I realize its the 'Q' but his numbers seem averagish even for that league.
I think he has a ton of upside but im wondering why he's been gift wrapped a spot on the team?
Edit: I'm only asking because i honestly dont know much about Mcdonald or his body of work. Just what I've read on forums and blogs.

Because the guy tied with or ahead of him on the depth chart is suspended to start the tournament?
He hasn't been gift wrapped a spot, he earned one of two positions the the process team Canada uses for all World Juniors. Previous play, summer camp, play in the season, etc etc.
Flames draft pick.. er.. Flames goalie draft pick = Suck!

Kris Beech? Cut twice after being drafted 7th Overall IIRC.

"He's a real smart defenseman," Eichel told the Calgary Sun last week when the Sabres visited the Flames. "I think another great thing about him, something I noticed, is he's got a great one-timer. It doesn't matter how hard you pass it, where it is, he can one-time anything. It's a skill not a lot of guys can do, and he's really good at it.
"He's a great player. He's smart. He understands the game. He skates well. He's really well-conditioned, so he can play a lot. I have a lot of great things to say about Brandon.

That's the 3rd or 4th person I've seen compliment his 1 timer/slapshot. They always mention he has unique aspects to it that makes it so great as well.
I'm quite exited about Mr. Hickey

He sounds like Brodie with a mean point shot. Hard not to get your hopes up with this kid.

McKenzie thinks Juulsen and McKeown may have an advantage being the only right shots at camp. He notes that in his locks that only Hicketts plays the right side and is still a left handed shot (not a good sign for Hickey as he plays left side). He also thinks Hockey Canada may have Walman penciled in as the trigger man on the PP.
Craig Button on who will be the starting goalie:
http://www.tsn.ca/video/who-will-be-...-goalie~762977
Button:
McDonald doesn't have a real strong statistical season
He is big, great economy of movement, real good poise - nothing seems to rattle him
This is Blackwood's first foray playing for Hockey Canada
He is big, strong in terms of playing in the net
The only problem Blackwood has is he tends to fall back into his net which is a sign of his confidence
McDonald has the inside track to be the starter in Button's opinion.
Was the goalie of the tournament at the u18s
Has an international pedigree
When push comes to shove he will get the start.
|
So how come his lock Dermott was the extra defender today?
Or was he a lock because the Leaf's drafted him?

I wonder if they are playing Hickey on his off side, to take advantage of his one timer we've been hearing about.

Can anyone who follows junior hockey more than I tell me how they would put those forward lines and d-men on a depth chart? It's a bit of a mystery to me. The only thing I figured out is that this is likely the first line: Crouse-Strome-Marner.
