Two questions for you Bruce, (coming from an asian)
1) How is it that those red sausages can be sold on the shelf without going bad, yet it is still considered 'meat'.
2) In your view, what is the slang word used towards Vietnamese people? (I thinkI know, but I've yet to confirm what a chinese person thinks of it)

If we're thinking of the same thing, those sausages have been dried (much like beef jerky), therefore, able to be preserved and sold on shelfs.
I don't know what the chinese use as slang for vietnamese people. "yid nam yun" is what I call them...however, tha's not a slang. Just means vietnamese people.

Why do you think people group all Asians together?
Being that Asia is the biggest continent on the planet, do you find it odd that many of the questions on this thread have turned from "why do Chinese" to "why do Asians"?
Do you feel qualified to answer these questions on behalf of all Asians?
And to the people asking these questions, do you assume the answers are the same for all Asians?

Related to the above, a lot of white people think Asians all look the same (and other races too). Do you think all white people look the same?

Some things the white folks here should try:
1000 year old eggs
Chicken feet
pigs tail
bee soup
yin wo - sparrows spit (though this can be extremely expensive)
|
I have heard of pickled pigs feet (gross by the way) but what do you do with a chicken foot?
And a pigs tail?
What is Bee Soup?
And Sparrow Spit sounds like a witch's potion Is it?
I love this thread by the way. I grew up in and still live in Vanilla Valley, so this is really interesting!

Chrysanthemum tea is one of China’s most popular Herbal teas. This tea is well-known for its cooling properties that help to decrease body heat and is recommended for those with fever, sore throat, and other heat-related illnesses.
Very refreshing and has a natural sweet fragrance and taste. Try brewing it with some rock sugar for additional sweetness.

flamefan74, asians don't normally drive pickups. There's really no reason for an asian to do so, and typically a lot of chinese are very into image. So driving around a truck isn't like driving a Honda or BMW...however, the younger generations do buy them. My friend recently bought a ford lighting (not practical as a hauling truck). And another friend of mine used to own a toyota truck as well. So yeah, asians do own trucks, but it's in the minority.
Winsor_Pilates, I definitely don't feel qualified to answer all these question, so I just simply say "I'm not sure," or "I don't know." I think people group asians together is because...well, we all look alike lol. I really can't think of any satisfying reason other than that. Maybe someone here can?
fredr123, I can definitely tell white people apart.
notoepik, pigs tail are usually boiled with soup. You eat it with the soup. You can order chicken feet at dim sum, and yes, you EAT it. Bee soup is just a certain type of huge bubblebee boiled the heck out of to create soup. Sparrow spit is suppse to be good for you. It's harvested in sparrow nests, high up on mountains where sparrows build their nest. So they are very expensive.
Calgary Flames, no I don't...but some of my asian friends do...I have no idea why lol.
Otto-matic, Yup, it's called Kok Fah (Chrysanthemum tea) in chinese. It's great. It's actually does help clean your system. I feel healthier after drinking that stuff. You mainly consume it when you have a high fever to cool yourself down.

Unfortunately, my culinary skills are as sharp as the oilers defense at the current moment. I will consult my dad and get back to you on this one.

To be honest, I can't tell the difference between say an Irish guy and a German guy and a British guy. So yes, all white people look the same to me.

It happened, it was horrible, but to what extent can you blame the current generation of Japanese for something that happened before their parents and grandparents were born? I think it's time for the region to move on.

LOL we use the we all look the same thing to our advantage here in China. We can interchange cards for use at places like a Costco type place and though we don't look remotely alike it's never a problem.

I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that it has to do with the people you see as you are growing up. Being chinese growing up in a middle class white neighbourhood, white people and chinese people do not look the same to me, but looking at black people and other races I didn't grow up around, that's when people start looking the same to me.

I don't think I've had problems identifying white people. I can tell the difference between a north american and a british person...but then again, I have a huge family in England, and half my uncles and aunts in law are white. So I've never really had much of a problem.
But I'm not always right...
