My thoughts on the game
- First 8 minutes of the first period was a mess. Team settled down after that.
- Icings and breakouts in general are a serious problem. No willingness to take a risk through the middle of the ice.
- Gio is fighting something, his mobility is just not there. It was there earlier this year, I.E. vs Detroit so it's not an age thing. Still, Gio-Brodie was our best pair.
- Hamilton is starting to look like our #3 Defenseman. Time for Hartley to recognize him as such and stop depending on Russell and Wideman so strongly.
- Wideman and Russell made way too many bad plays on their respective pairings to clear the zone. Wideman cost us the first and third goals single-handedly with bad clears, can't blame Ramo or anyone for those. If he can't skate the puck out himself then call up Kulak or something because this is not working. He is a liability.
- I liked Smid's game. In particular he had a play standing up the blue line that this team has been sorely missing. Hope he draws in tommorow. Really want to see Smid-Nakladal.
- Wow, our cycle game from the Stajan / Backlund / Grant lines looked the best it's every looked in the Bob Hartley era. Ferland, Grant, Jooris, Jones, and Bennett were a few of the standouts.
- The Bennett goal was a beauty. He's quickly becoming our best forward along with Johnny. Hope he gets moved back to centering Johnny, breaking that up was dump.
- On the other hand Hudler-Monahan-Gaudreau is not working. It just isn't. Everything is one and done with zero sustained pressure. Hudler and Monny are losing the footraces and the puck battles. Gaudreau
tries but he's 170 lbs soaking wet and gets pinned to the boards.
- PK was bad.
- All-in-all, this is a loss I could have lived with if we weren't so far down the standings. It was a well-played game overall.

Him and Matthews. This team needs that big, dominant top 6 forward to take the attention away from Johnny and Sam.
