I trust neither transportation mode. When you haul something toxic, some of it is going to spill:

Why even bother debating which mode of transport is safer when it's clear neither safety nor the environment is the reason for Obama nixing KXL, but rather a convenient excuse for what is simply protectionism on behalf of the US?

True, but if something bad happens to a pipeline, it is easier to contain thanks to automation and many fail safe options. If a train derails, the worst that can happen will happen

I'm not sure I follow your logic here.

The Long Lake, Kalamazoo, and little Buffalo leaks were massive, with no auto shut off. This week's derailment in Wisconsin 1000 gallons leaked before they filled the tank car.

Pipeline leaks can be small or large. Tanker car derailments can leak large and small. Neither is fully safe

Nothing in life is 100% safe, it's about choosing the best option.

You must admit that with comments like these you come across as someone with fingers in his ears refusing to listen to the other side?

As mentioned many times in this thread, this is very good for America. It creates a protected oil industry in the states, relocating investment from Canada to USA, all without the use of tariffs! Americans should be very happy with this decision.

Why can't the president of the US make a decision which aligns with one of his key supporters investments, and be good for the states? He isn't allow to support good ideas for his nation when one of his supporters will make more money because of it? That is nuts.

Americans who oppose this are thinking short term or simply blinded by their hate, both are disappointing.

Canadians should be pissed.

There must be some way Canada can sue the US under NAFTA for this decision. Bring on the lawyers!

Please stop watching CNN, CBC or whatever other media Propaganda that is filling your brain with nonsense. Stopping the pipeline has ZERO to do with stopping Canadian oil imports into the united states. All it does is continue to use an archaic method of transportation of energy all to line the pockets of the richest man on earth. PERIOD.

Canada is a net exporter. USA is a net importer. This will not change in our lifetime. What makes me upset is as a Continent (North America) we have the ability to become energy independent. Meaning no more supporting the "kingdom of Saud" No more supporting dictatorships. No more insane trade deficits with these terrible countries. No more money in the hands of foreign terrorists. We were promised this by the USA president while he was campaigning. Both times. What we got was the exact opposite. More huge trade deficits. More money to the Kingdom. More money to foreign terrorists. Lies paid for by lobbyists.

We disagree. However, the US president owes Canadians nothing, despite what was promised in his Campaign. We were promised nothing, Americans were.

Also, look back into history, when Obama ran vs McCain, it was stated by your propaganda mainstream media that McCain was better for Canada. I don't know what promises you speak of, but Obama has always been pro american investment, while the right was pro free trade.

Yeah, if only he got his news from trusted non-biased outlets such as Huffington Post, Toronto Star, or MSNBC then we could all join hands and sing kumbaya.

You're right, he should stick with fox, Breitbart and WND. Maybe some infowars for the straight goods.

Or we could draw our own conclusions.

U.S. union boss slams Obama for being ‘hypocrite’ in Keystone XL pipeline rejection

http://business.financialpost.com/ne...line-rejection

Quote:
Obama needed a legacy after many of his initiatives fell through due to Washington’s political gridlock, he said.

There was nothing that Calgary-based TransCanada, KXL’s proponent, or Canadian governments could have done differently to get the project approved, he said.

“This cake was baked a long time ago,” McGarvey said. “It was unfortunate that once the decision was made, that they didn’t just go ahead and issue the decision then, that they played politics with the pipeline … and used it as a fundraising vehicle for political campaigns.”

That looks like it was written by nobama1 or Fox News. Saying he needs a legacy is about the same as saying he is a Kenyan muslim.

Good thing he doesn't need a legacy then as the one he's leaving is hardly one to admire.
