EASHL Beta next week

https://www.easports.com/nhl/eashl?u...1&sf39521843=1

Quote:
Available to NHL 15 owners only, EA SPORTS NHL will be releasing a limited access EA SPORTS Hockey League Beta starting July 30 until August 6 for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. This will be your only chance to experience the new EASHL in NHL 16 before the game hits stores September 15. This fan-favorite online team mode has been reimagined and lets you choose specialized player classes to deliver a balanced competitive experience on the ice. Player skill and your ability to play as a team will now be the determining factor in who wins and loses. So, sharpen those skates and grab your buddies because the EA SPORTS Hockey League is back!

HOW TO GET ACCESS

For players who own NHL 15 on either Xbox One or PlayStation 4 – Jump into NHL 15 starting July 30 and you’ll see a new panel in the main menu hub to download the NHL 16 EASHL Beta. NHL 15 is required to access the beta initially, but is not required after you have successfully downloaded as the beta will be accessibly directly from your console hard drive.

interesting.

I'm not a EASHL mode player at all. Can i assume that by playing the beta i'll get a feel for what NHL16 will feel like from a gameplay perspective?

I suppose my question seeems stupid, but this is a beta of the mode and the game play, not just the new mechanics around eashl (ie. team selection, player creation, lobby, practice or whatever) and the core game play mechanics exhibited would simply be that of NHL 15?

I'm not quite sure what you're asking and someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the beta will have all the regular gameplay updates that typical versus game modes would have in 16.

Basically the new goalie controls, new skating mechanics, etc will all be in the beta. The only difference is that EASHL is a game mode where you only control one player instead of the whole team, so it's a different dynamic for sure.

yup it was a bit of a stupid question, but i wasn't clear.

my fear was that the beta may allow NHL15 game play mechanics to allow folks to play the EASHL mode.

reading the update, it says that you just need nhl15 to download the beta, and then no longer need nhl 15. this alleviates my concern.

Your concern being the new EASHL is NHL 15 with a 16 thrown on top?

"July 30 until August 6"

... So... one week? And then what? They just stop allowing access to it until the new game comes out?

Given how completely they #####ed up with NHL15 in removing that mode to begin with, you'd think they'd let the consumers who, for reasons passing understanding, stuck with them in spite of it all, play the damned thing until the final version is released. Why cut them off after a week?

Because that's how betas work. They let the public test out multiplayer features for a short period of time so they can iron out bugs before the final release.

Not always, several games have stayed public beta nearly straight until launch.

For players who own NHL 15 on either Xbox 360 or PS3 - If you’ve upgraded to a new console, you have a chance to get access to the NHL 16 EASHL Beta. If selected, you will receive a beta access code via your EA/Origin email account on July 30 which can then be redeemed on either an Xbox One or PlayStation 4 (access code platform determined based on your previous console preference). If you haven’t opted in to receive emails from EA SPORTS NHL, change your preferences here. Sign up before July 25, 11:59 AM PT for a chance to be eligible to receive a code. Limited quantities available.

So they can go in and iron out all the bugs/glitches they find? This is pretty standard procedure in the video game world. A beta isn't a demo. Although it gives customers a chance to try out the game, it also serves as a development tool.

As far as NHL 15 goes, I admit that it was pretty flawed in regards to game modes, but the gameplay (which was completely redone) was really fun. I can sympathize with the NHL team because compared to other EA departments, they are quite small for a game that gets released yearly.

It's not that they "removed" all the game modes on purpose. They just didn't have the time to fit them in the game and be fully functional.

The team has came out and answered questions on why some features are announced later than others and it's because the don't announce anything until they are 100% certain it will make the final version. This year the announced the new goalie features weeks after all the main features for example.

Hopefully they will have an option where you start as a new expansion team, getting a draft of the 'scrubs' and other unprotected players in a fantasy expansion draft. I think that would be cool enough to make me buy it.
