3 trades I'd make.

Patrick Sharp for Markus Granlund + Wash 3rd (Could go Wash 2nd if need be)
TJ Oshie for Klimchuk + 2nd (one of the 3)
Mattias Ekholm for Jiri Hudler

How do you figure we'd get Sharp or Oshie for those packages?

Hawks need to shed salary. That is obvious. Granlund has some potential, NHL and cheap.

Blues need to change it up a bit and Oshie is a likely candidate. They also need to move some money. 1st and a 2nd for Oshie would be good value.

Valid points, but you have to remember that regardless of a team's situation there's still 29 other teams potentially interested, and good players typically get good returns.

Granlund has been great from the perspective of a Flames fan but his value wouldn't be that high on the market at this time.

Yup, but how many of those 29 have the proper cap space? and those remaining how many have the picks/young prospects they can dangle for these players. Some may have them and would prefer not to make that move like the Leafs/Canes/Coyotes etc.

So limits the market for teams like Hawks/Blues. A guy like Sharp, who has a NTC, would likely waive to Calgary (his brother lives here) as opposed to some other place.

Feaster and then BT have talked about taking advantage of a situation like this for a long time so hopefully they can find one this summer.

probably no as in oshie disappears in the playoffs and klimchuk is our only top 6 prospect besides poirier imo.

I predict tons of changes in the next year. Young players making steps forward and beating out guys like Jones, Stajan, Raymond and Byron out for positions. And some trades come deadline time.

Start of the season:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Hudler
Bouma - Backlund - Colborne
Ferland - Bennett - Poirier
Bollig - Granlund - Raymond
Jooris

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Wideman
Schlemko - Wotherspoon
Engelland

Hiller
Ortio

End of the Season:

Gaudreau - Monahan - Colborne
Ferland - Bennett - Poirier
Bouma - Backlund - Jooris
Klimchuk - Granlund - Smith
Arnold

Giordano - Brodie
Russell - Wotherspoon
Wideman - Morrison
Engelland

Ortio
Gillies

So what happens at the start of the season with Jones & Stajan when or if they get beat out for spots in the opening day lineup with this lineup configuration? Do they get traded before the start of this season? Do they spend most of the upcoming season in the pressbox, or what?

I really hope this doesn't happen because it probably means the season has gone completely in the tank and we've traded away all our (underperforming) vets for draft picks.

I'll be perfectly fine with Klimchuk, Smith and Gillies all spending the entire year in the AHL.

I think Stajan is the odd man out in centre. Not sure when the right time to move him would be, I don't think they will get much so maybe a draft deal. Jooris is more versatile as a press box guy.

Jones is pretty easy to replace from the existing talent pool.

I'm expecting to see players take further steps forward: Money, Johnny, Big Joe, Ferland, Lance, Marcus, Drew and Sam.

Playing Granlund over Stajan is a travesty. Think Bennett will play on Backlunds wing so that solves that problem.

I don't see how anyone will take Jones from us with his contract. Why not try the Ferland-Stajan-Jones line out and see if they can keep the magic going.

I really hope the Flames don't trade for Lehner. Sure he has a bit of nhl experience but I see way more potential in ortio, and I would much rather see ortio/hiller over ortio/Lehner. I can't see much coming back if we did trade hiller anyway

A couple of things here to consider. Lehner is 23 years old. Still a year or two before he hits his full stride. The thing to look at from a Flames perspective is Lehner is a good measuring stick to compare Ortio to and having them fight for the number one spot is a good thing. Another point is Lehners contract, he has two seasons left signed @ 2.225 I think. Great value for a decent young goalie with RFA years still tied at the end of his contract.

Yes there is more risk tinvolved in taking Lehner over Hiller but if you're a believer in Ortio, Hiller or Lehner won't see that many games anyways.

Lehner fits the age grouping the team is aiming for.

A few posters have predicted Loui Eriksson to the Flames, that is something I see as much more likely than any TJ Oshie-David Backes-Patrick Sharp talk.
He could fit in real well.

Going to be so off on this when the season rolls around, but why not:

Johnny Gaudreau - Sean Monahan - T.J. Oshie
Joe Colborne - Sam Bennett - Justin Williams
Lance Bouma - Mikael Backlund - David Jones
Micheal Ferland - Matt Stajan - Drew Shore

Mark Giordano - T.J. Brodie
Andrej Sekera - Dennis Wideman
Kris Russell - Deryk Engelland

Jonas Hiller
Joni Ortio
