I like the idea of a new tandem next year. Try to trade Hiller at the draft as part of a package to upgrade the goaltending and go with the new goalie plus Ortio. They would also need to sign an older goalie to split time in the AHL and handle backup duties in the event of an injury.

Niemi and Ortio would be an interesting idea.

Ward looks just as good as Hiller and Ramo in net, also noting he has been stuck on the same team that drafted him and has been inconsistent for about 5 years now.
Save% GAA
Ward- 0.910 2.73
Ramo- 0.917 2.49
Hiller- 0.905 2.92

Yeah I ran the numbers a few pages back. I feel like Ward with a change of scenery would be a better goalie. And with a better team in front of him too.

Ward would come free with a 5th if you simply asked for him. They would love to part with him, so why are we giving up so much???

I think fans have made this into a bigger issue than it is. Seems pretty clear it'll be Hiller/Ortio next year.
But for discussion's sake, I too would rather see Ramo/Ortio. But I just don't see the market to trade Hiller.

That's the 5th overall pick he is after. Not a 5th rounder.
Still, No need to go big game hunting when all you're really after is better goaltending. I'd swap 2nd round picks with CAR in a Ward trade.
Something to add to the hopper for taking the extra 2m in cap for next year. Which is what CAR's primary need is this offseason.

In that case, why does a cash strapped rebuilding team part with a 5th overall in one of the deepest drafts in recent memory for overpaid vets?? There's is no logic to be found here

It's a steep price asking for the 5th overall back especially since it would probably be the 15th going back
But what about LHD Hayden Fluery or RHD Trevor Carrick?

Where are these stats from? Hiller has never had a season with numbers that bad. He has 91.8% and a 2.36 GAA. 91.9% in the postseason.

From NHL.com
Hiller has a NHL career .917 SV% with a 2.49 GAA.

It seems you confused Hiller's stats with Ramo's.
I'm not that enthused with Hiller as our #1 goalie but he does have good stats, so I can see him being retained over Ramo. On the other hand Ramo has improved every year in the NHL and is younger.
