How does this benefit the NHL? Seriously, wear a foil hat if you wish, but at least try and have some reasonable points. McDavid helps the NHL waaaaaaaaaayyyyy more in the East or a struggling market like Arizona

This is different then the Pens and Crosby. Pens had Lemiuex and were on the up and up.
Since Lowe asked Comrie to pay money to be traded over a decade ago, the PA has been watching that organization. Then Pronger got lied to. UFA's like Perron, Erik Cole, same thing. Souray got treated like garbage, nevermind misdiagonsed by Oilers doctors. On and on. See Heatly, Nylander and other countless players you'll never hear about, that have rejected the Oilers as UFA or by no waiving trade clauses.
And its one factor: Kevin Lowe. His arrogance, ego, and self perception of how smart a hockey guy he is, and what he'll do and say to get you in the door, and how he meddles in everything, is the reason that team has finished as pathetically as they have, with no sane player looking to further their career, remotely thinking about signing up there.

These idiots fumble**** their way through 8 years of rebuilding themselves all the way to 28th place with a near cap cieling team, and manage to luck out (with the first year of improved odds outside of 30th place) and draft 1st overall for the 4th time in 6 years and get a stud like McDavid.

Worst part of this? My phone is lighting up with texts from 780 numbers that were uncharacteristically silent all season.

The Oilers were able to trick Schultz for one short season. During the lockout, a lot of analysts thought the Oilers would make the playoffs.
Things were actually quite positive a couple years ago.
Of course, things are different now, but the hype train is coming back into station. If you guys thought hearing "the young, high-octane Oilers" all these off-seasons was annoying, we've seen nothing yet.

so with mcdavid their goal differential should go from -85 to optimistically -35. That is still pretty brutal. Considering it will take 3 years to develop capable dmen means he will be off his elc and half way to ufa freedom.

It's truly unbelievable that they got a 1st again. I'm not even mad to be honest. Yes I hate the Oilers, but that fan base is loyal as hell. I take solace knowing the kind of trajectory our team is on for the next few years. Hopefully the BOA is back sooner than later.
