He pretty much had the same season he had previous two years, again, but this time Providence won the NCAA tourney. I didn't even think he really carried them, though he was definitely the better goaltender in the last game, I thought he was outplayed in the tourney semi-final and in the quarter-final he let in 5 goals.

Don't get me wrong, great prospect, and no one else really had the kind of season to write home about (maybe Rafikov?) but the real test comes in the AHL. Jets' Hellybuyck saw his save percentage drop from .941 in Hockey East to a more realistic .921 in AHL, I'm hoping Gillies can stay above the ~.917 mark himself.

Goalies are weird. You never know what can happen. Do equivalence stats work for them? Doubt it. For a recent example see: Burgler, Ham

Scouts were mainly excited about Gilles because his frame and style projected him to adapt well to the pro game. His 3 years of immense stats back that projection up pretty well.

Article says "Prospect of the Year". In that context, it's hard to argue Bennett over Gillies, despite a very impressive playoff from the 18 year old. I try not to get excited about prospects (especially goalies), but man oh man, Gillies does look like he has a bright future. What a year, what a career... I think we got a keeper with Jon (pun intended).
