Awesome game by the Flames, this is the type of performance we need, aside from the the dirty embarrassing hit by Bouma that rightfully cost him the game. Knee/knee or not he lunged out with the knee, which is what the league has and always will crack down on. There is no clean hit that can result from extending your knee regardless of which point actually ends up making contact (skate, leg, or knee).

There is just something so wrong with the TO media. The tone of the article almost ascribes the problems of the Leafs squarely on a guy who has been gone two full seasons. Trying to ascribe blame when there has been no effort made to fix the core since he left is not Burke's problem.

I have a frozen screen shot of the Bouma hit at the moment of contact. Kozan is already past Bouma. Their skates collide (they hook feet). Bouma's knee is not only not making contact, it is actually turned INWARD. And Kozun's knee is past it. Kozuns skate catches Bouma's skate and Kozun then does the full pirouette.

There is no knee contact. None. Bouma's knee doesn't ever touch Kozun. Bouma's knee moves outward after the hit, because Kozan's skate pulls Bouma's leg backwards.

Nonetheless, he hit a Leaf, so it will probably be a suspension.
That was bush-league penalty on Lance Bouma. There was no contact on each other's knee. Good on the Flames scoring 2 shorthanded goals on that major penalty. Referee was actually brutal tonight. Phaneuf whacked Johnny and no penalty was called then when they got back on the other end, Colborne was penalized because he hit Phaneuf's big head. There were other non-calls on the Leafs but who cares, right? Flames won.

The Derek Wills and Peter Loubardias tandem has gotten much better. Their chemistry is getting there and they were great to listen to. Wills has really toned down the "I need to prove myself" attitude and Loubardias flat out loves watching and talking about hockey. I credit their growth to Loubardias who bit his tongue a lot early in the season when Wills was getting carried away (imo).

In any event, they are there now and called a great game tonight. Kudos to them for working on their craft as well.
Thanks for bringing this up. I listened to the Islanders game a couple weeks ago and I thoroughly enjoyed the broadcast team. My only complaint is all the advertising and promos they shoehorn into every spare second!

So how come no one mentioned that Leafs are the only team to have never won a game on Friday the 13th

Came back from the game, did anyone spot a leafs guy masking-taped "McDavid" & "97" on the back of the jersey?

Great catch on Matchsticks & Gasoline.

Bob Hartley pulled the fourth line trick on Peter Horachek, initially sending Matt Stajan and Brandon Bollig out for the faceoff. Horachek responded by sending out Zach Sill and Joakim Lindstrom out, bracing for some rough stuff.

Then Bob Hartley, with the ability to make the last change, sent out Monahan and Hudler. The oldest trick in the book! Hartley should get the Jack Adams just for doing that. This was the most entertaining part of the third, by the way.

Great game. Nice to see them jump on an inferior opponent and basically not let off the gas. The Leafs are a disgrace just like a the Oilers, Vancouver and Winnipeg.

If someone with more skills than me could photoshop Monahan and Gaudreau on that gif, it would be great!

God dammit I am trying to force myself to watch Black Sails but all I can think about is how incredibly awesome it is to be a Flames fan right now.

Sean and Johnny would be riding fireballs not jumping them.

“They’re unbelievable. They’re fun to coach and they’re fun to watch,” Flames bench boss Bob Hartley said of his own chargers. “They’re moving so well, they’re creative, and they’re responsible. They’re playing the right way.

“They’re not cheating, and they’re picking up tons of points playing the right way, and that’s why we’re winning games.”
Quote:
“We are clicking,” said Monahan, who netted a pair of goals in his first career three-point outing. “All our games are a little bit different. Hudes is a playmaker. And Johnny? He’s got speed and can make plays as well. With us together, we like to talk and sort things out out there. We’re getting the job done.”

“Every team is dangerous. You look at their skill level and they're a team that can be very opportunistic based on the talent level at every position. Like I've said before, we prepare ourself the same way: 80% of our preparation is based on our hockey club and the other 20% is based on the Leafs.”

— Flames head coach Bob Hartley

“I think they're a good, young team and Bob (Hartley) has got them working all together. They work hard and they're gifted offensively with some of the players up front and they've got good leadership and everybody's pulling the rope in the same direction.”

— Maple Leafs head coach Peter Horachek

The amazing thing here is this:
This team is becoming exactly what Jay Feaster hoped they would become before he was let go. A group of 25 guys that care about each other, battle hard for each other, and together are much greater than the sum of their parts.

Stats from this year

Goals - Boychuk has 4 more
Assists - Boychuk has 2 more
Points - Boychuk has 6 more
+/- - Boychuk has +17, Dion is a -7
Islanders - 7th in NHL 90 pts
Leafs - 26th in NHL 60 pts

The only area where Dion leads is time on ice, and he only plays 1:41 more a game, which isn't a big difference and Boychuk is only 15 months older, so not a big difference either.

Default Flames win 6-3 yet again - Toronto is No Good

Late to the party tonight...
What a surreal game to watch. I have never seen a team not want to be on the ice.

We've had so many tough games lately, it was like the Flames came out expecting a hard grind, but, when it didn't come, we almost looked a little disoriented. No real flow, and no push back.

Brutal "leadership" from the Leafs' captains, and shameful for Horachek to have to be associated with. I even started to feel embarrassment for the Leafs.
