I certainly haven't been one of Baertschi's biggest supporters. He strikes me as having entitlement issues and seemed to expect things to come easily. I have my doubts that he will ever be an impact NHL player.

Having said that, I don't see why we couldn't let it play out. The fact the trade is with the Canucks makes me really uneasy as well.

Baertschi is going to kick our ass with the Utica Comets. AWFUL.

Don't get too excited. This organization, with a massive hole in D prospects, didn't take any of the D in the second round last year and instead took another goalie and a plug "cuz size"

A 2nd for a non-NHLer is not a bad return fellas.

Fair value. The Sven fan boys will be upset, but if you look at how Sven is progressing it's leaning towards bust territory and it was very unlikely he would have made the team next season, thus risking him to waivers. Feaster made the mistake by rushing him to the NHL too soon and causing him pass through waivers at an early age.

We only have room for so many small forwards and Baertschi had been passed. If we waited until training camp, he'd only be worth a 4th like Colborne.

Don't like moving him to a rival.

But if you are going to move him now is the time to do it.

Has to clear waivers next year, and if you don't see him as an NHLer full time then you're going to lose him for free anyways.

Would have preferred a D-Man in a similar situation though.

Not a fan of this trade at all. Any Sven deal for a 2nd would be upsetting but to the Canucks of all teams? This one is going to bite us in the ass for years to come. Terrible deal

Is the 2017 2nd round return confirmed? If so that is horrible

I will admit. 3 2nd round picks in the 2015 draft is great news. There's some real gems in there.

I'm sorry, how many NHL teams have you worked for and got to the Conference Finals with? At least 1 less than Brad Treliving!

Seriously though, this isn't as bad as everyone's making it out to be. You can't just say "OMG we traded a 1st rounder for a 2nd rounder". We traded a questionable 1st rounder that was drafted under the previous GM who the current GM obviously doesn't want and who hasn't done jack at the NHL level. I like what the guy on the last page said, trade him before he becomes Nemisz and all we get for him is Kevin Westgarth We should be dancing for joy that we got a 2nd round pick for him. I hope Sven Baertschi tears it up for the Canucks just like Tim Erixon did with the Rangers

Not a great return - but for some reason this organization was not seeing Baertschi as a long term piece - I wonder if it was a combination of a perceived character issue as well as a talent issue.

Certainly Burkie never took much of a shine to him and I guess Treliving wasn't won over either.

Not a success story for the organization, but get the 2nd round pick and drive on.

Stupid trade.

A) He is more valuable to us than a 2nd round pick.
B) Trading him to the Canucks was the dumbest thing we could have done. We will regret it.

Sven was never going to work out here. clearing space for the 'new flames' and loading up on 2nds for summertime dealing. looks good to me - i trust Brad and Burkie will be very busy in the off season.

It sucks but that's good value for Baertschi at this point. I would have preferred to see one more training camp out of him, but if he didn't make it he'd be waiver fodder. Never like trading a potential piece to the Canucks but that's the risk.

Three 2nd round pick is exciting. Six picks in the first three rounds is great.

Baertschi was passed by too many and with guys like Klimchuk joining the minors next year it was time to make a decision.

It's good value, the only thing one you worry about is the Canucks.

I've been team Baertschi for sometime, but even I said he would probably pass through waivers next fall if he didn't make the team. Praise Burke and Treliving for make the hard but right decisions.

What has Sven done so far to make anyone think he will make an impact in the NHL?

Other than you bought a Sven jersey.

Yea it's not too early at all to declare this like it's a certainty.

At the very least this is a good move in that it will drastically cut down your constant and enduring complaining about this topic.

Really? Remember when we recalled him even though everyone in Adirondack said he had been playing really badly at the time? They were amazed he got the recall.
