Everything else is gravy. I'd be thrilled as all hell to be a Kings fan right now. Its a goddamn shame they're sitting in our playoff spot and just got better.

If they make the playoffs that 1st is going to be practically worthless anyways and I cant speak for McKeown because I know literally nothing about him. Its a heavy price but hell, Sekera is going to re-sign. Because he's going to be on a powerhouse team that is looking to establish a dynasty and he'll get to do it in LA.

What they've done is sacrificed then for now but they're built for now. They're going for broke to win as much as they can right now.

It makes tons of sense.
I'm about 120% sure that Mr Yamoto was being sarcastic with his post...

I think this was a win-win deal.

A first and a prospect would be an overpayment coming from (for example) Calgary, but for a team on the cusp of winning a Stanley Cup whose only real need is a 2nd pairing defenceman who can help stir the offense, I think it's totally worth the price.

Carolina gets a fantastic return for their player, and LA doesnt have to settle for Jeff Petry.

Voynov's court case was pushed back until after the trade deadline. So even if everything goes perfectly for him he won't be re-instated until late March. At which point he won't have practiced with an NHL team for about 5 months. Assuming he's still in game shape. So even if all his ducks line up in a row he might not dress until the last couple of games of the season, or possibly not until the playoffs to avoid cap problems.

Sekera will slot into the second line and if he's effective for the Kings, Doughty might be able to scale his minutes back a little to stay fresh for the playoffs. It seems like a high price to pay for a decent second pairing D, but the Kings are going for it. Again. Right now it seems to me like a good trade for both sides.

This trade is moot to me, I think the kings make it in regardless.

We just need any two of Vancouver, Winnipeg, Minnesota or San Jose to finish below Calgary

This trade is a perfect illustration of how assets are valued differently, depending on where your team is at.

For Carolina who is starting a rebuild, getting a 1st and McKeown for a UFA is a fantastic return and IMO they won the trade.

But for LA, who are top contenders, giving up a 1st and a young prospect is really currency that is not that big of a deal to them. Win while you can and deal with it later.

Having said that, I doubt their ability to re-sign him. And if not, that was a steep price for a rental.

As for Sureloss' post, I agree with the others, I like what NAS got and LA paid too much. Great post by the way, sureloss - that was a perfect comparison for two very similar trades
