I think Buffalo wins, but not by much. My Buffalo friend just sent me a text about how it sucks losing Lemeiux but don't know much about him.

Yep, I think Bogosian > Myers.
Jets are giving up the two best players in the deal.

Buffalo is marginally worse for the year so that makes me happy - because I hate the Oilers with an unholy passion and I want to see them miss out on McDavid (and hopefully Eichel and Hanifin too)

I think Jets "wins" this trade for the next few months (needs to be that way to keep Chevy from getting mauled).
Post season + early next season is probably a wash.
Buffalo "wins" trade by about year 2.
Might be a wash again around year 3
I don't think this trade will be one that will be revisited for years to come as being a lopsided trade. I think both parties win depending on how you view it.
EDIT: By "win" next few months, is that he doesn't get critiqued as someone who got completely fleeced on the Kane trade when his hand was pretty much forced. Not necessarily what was on paper.

Nicklas Lidstrom would look pretty bad playing on this year's Sabres team and while Myers IMO has always been a little overrated he's going to be a competent top 4 defenseman on a decent team. It's not out of the question he ends up being the best player in this deal when all is said and done.

Two weeks ago, before towelgate, the Jets lineup had Kane and Bogosian. Now it has Myers and Stafford instead. Maybe it'll swing back the other way in the future, but as of right now, the Jets line up isn't as strong as it was two weeks ago.

Bogosian is talented some of the time. He's very inconsistent and I think Myers has a much higher ceiling. Overall for a problem child who would never suit up again in a Jets jersey this is a huge win for Chevy.
Buffalo did good too. Win win. Great deal all around.

Just sickens me how the guys on Hockeycentral @ Noon are praising Tim Murray for making his team worse.

I think buffalo ended up with the better players in the long run. Getting Stafford off their team helps their McDavid/Eichel chances. If Kane doesn't destroy the locker room, adding a healthy Kane, McDavid/Eichel to the talent they have so far is quite the job Murray did looking long term.
For Winnipeg I think Kane is addition by subtraction with Stafford being able to help them this year.
Short term edge to Winnipeg. Long term I could see this as a huge win for Buffalo.

Also of interest is that the Jets cleared a pile of Salary.
Bogosian $4 mil this year, average of $5.5 mil over the next four
Kane $6 mil aav for this year and the next three
for
Myers, $5 mil this year, contract declining to $3 mil over the next four
Stafford $4 mil this year, UFA
In real dollars, they are saving $6.25 million, and in AAV, a $6.5 million for next year.

Hard to say this is a win right now for either team. Sabres add a legit sniper who could be a major star alongside a Reinhart or McDavid/Eichel if he gets his act together. Who knows about the goalie and personally, I think Bogosian is better than Myers.
The Jets may only rent Stafford, Myers struggled with Calgary's speed in the games they played and Lemieux looks like a third-line energy guy.
Seems to me pretty even depending on what happens with the first-round pick Winnipeg gets and how Kane responds to a new team.

With rumours that LA and San Jose have been looking for help on the trade market, I wonder if they pull the plug on a trade sooner than later?

Sure but Lemieux as a third line energy player is pretty big. Those type of players are valuable. Don't forget about Armia. Not a sure thing, but he has a NHL shot. Put him in the same boat of chances as Sven making the NHL.

I really don't get why you are overreacting.
IMO, Murray got the better defenceman between Bogosian and Myers and he traded a UFA forward that was going to be traded anyway for futures.
If you are that offended by the Sabres removing one mediocre forward from their active roster, then I really don't know what to say.

I agree. Stafford was not the only player keeping Buffalo away from McDavid. They were going to get there anyway. Stafford was getting traded to some team so that really does not matter.

We have a thread on this forum called Edmonton is No Good.
I'm not overreacting.
