John Shannon is out of his tree on this. For the 9–12 teams to all make the playoffs, one of two things will have to happen:
1. Four teams that now have 52 to 54 points (L.A., Dallas, Colorado, Minnesota) will have to finish ahead of four teams that now have 57 to 60 points (San Jose, Winnipeg, Calgary, Vancouver). But then you'd have just two Pacific Division teams in the playoffs – Anaheim and L.A. This is impossible under the current playoff setup. So scratch that idea.
2. One of Chicago (64 points), St. Louis (68), or Nashville (70) will have to finish behind all four of those teams, so they not only drop out of top 3 in the Central, but out of a wild-card spot as well. That will require a massive losing streak, which is a real long shot at this point in the season.

Shannon is annoying at the best of times, but that is ridiculous. Hopefully someone calls him out on it.

Shannon didn't think that one thru and it's pretty obvious.

At even games we are 2 pts behind 2nd in the Pacific. Just need to hang on to the end of february through the tough stretch and go a game over 500 and we will be in good shape heading into the trade deadline.
We picked a good year to over achieve with LA and San Jose falling off a bit.

Got some scoreboard watching to do with Winnipeg @ Vancouver tonight. What's the ideal situation for tonight? Winnipeg in regulation? Dear god just let it not be a 3-point game!

Massive brawl, game cancelled, points forfeited for both teams.

Winnipeg in regulation. If we stay top three, then the entire Central doesn't matter.

I'm surprised the Oilers don't hire him on the spot.

Best case is the Canucks lose and eventually miss the playoffs.

Much easier to cheer against the Nucks, no matter what the circumstances. They should be thinking 2/3 in the Pacific, and not just the wildcard. They are absolutely right in the thick of it.

Feeling dirty no matter who to cheer for. I wished the same thing, no 3 pointer. I was hoping the Canucks to win in reg time.

Yep but, if the Flames pass the Jets for the #1 wild card spot, it doesn't matter what the Pacific does.

I'm still worried about the Wild starting to find their groove. Too much talent in that lineup...
Huge game against the Sharks tonight.

I'm thinking that it's not at all bad for us that most of the division is still very much in the playoff race, with only Arizona and obviously Edmonton being out. No freebie points, lots of tights games... there's a pretty good chance it all pretty much just evens out in the end. At which point our 5 point margin is a huge advantage.
And lots of good hockey of course
