Eric Frances just said him and his wife are expecting a child.... Hope the Flames org can be accommodating in some way.... I know it's a business and all... Just feel like he contributed much more than an on ice toughness but helped develop the culture the Flames are carrying now

I would fine with the Flames hiring him for the front office in some capacity. He seems to have the personality to be good in a public facing function. I like McGrattan as a person from all that I can see and he was obviously popular. I just don't like the role and I didn't like him on the ice.

I am furious with Flames management and coaching staff right now!
Just because it makes the team better, and its the right decision I still hate them all lol!
I love McGrattan, I still think he can play and add to a team in the league.
Would love to see him retire though and become part of the coaching team here. I also have no issues with him going to ADDY as a player/coach. Could be fantastic for the kids down there. Get rid of that numb nut Gillies!

Little aggressive there, not everyone knows McGrattan's past problems.
I'm sure Big Ern would be cool with having water and chatting it up while Duke has a beer

I've been a hockey fan for nearly 40 years, an McGrattan is right up there in terms of players I'll always respect and remember.
Many NHL players - most in fact, will bring more talent to the table but few will do more to make the most of what they can bring than Big Ern.
He has had a massively positive impact at this Club and I'll always be grateful for that.

Anyone think there's situations where there are gentlemens agreements between gm's where they won't pick up player x because of personal reasons etc

Not aggressive at all, if you choose to read it that way then there's nothing I can do. McGrattan I have doubt would be very cool, but I can assure you I wouldn't be drinking a beer

Not happy with this move at all. Hopefully it works out that he stays.
If the Flames are going to continue their slide down the standings i want Big Ern on the team. He's a wonderful teammate and is close to a number of the guys. His mentorship cannot be discounted.
Last year he showed he can contribute when given the opportunity.

@Fan960Steinberg: Regarding McGrattan on waivers, Treliving says it was one of the hardest decisions he's had to make in his professional career. #Flames

Yes, on a team not nearly as deep as this one. Hence why he's no longer playing

He needs to be offered a position on the non-playing personnel - maybe as one of the trainers, so that he's able to be on the bench and in the locker room and travel with the team.
Quote:
5.4 Coaches and Team Personnel - No one but players in uniform, nonplaying
team personnel duly registered on the Roster Sheet as the
Manager, Coach(es), Trainer, Equipment Manager, etc. shall be
permitted to occupy the benches so provided.
One non-uniformed player shall be permitted on the players’ bench
in a coaching capacity. He must be indicated on the Roster Sheet
submitted by the Coach to the Official Scorer prior to the start of the
game.

Also have to wonder if it will also be a trade post-waivers to balance contracts.

Perhaps a bit deeper, but not much in my opinion. The past month has been very similar to last year.
If he goes down at least he can get back in game shape.

Will be very interesting what happens now. Will he end up going to the AHL? Will the Flames offer him some sort of role in their hockey ops? Will they mutually agree to terminate his contract so that McGrattan can get involved with the league's substance abuse program? Whatever happens, I wish him a lot of luck.
