I have never seen the LRT like it was today. There were people waiting like 6 trains to get to the stadium. I managed to make it for kickoff, but just barely.

FWIW I enjoyed the atmosphere and had a good time even with the lack of offense.

Perhaps. I think a defender is allowed to hold off players with their arms.

Anyways, NZ-Netherlands now, seems like a decent number of people have stayed behind in the stadium for free football!

She made contact with the player but not the ball

If that same tackle happened in the middle of the park it would be called every time and no one would complain

If that happened in the Canadian box, this thread would have exploded.

Crowd for second game. Already much better football than the Canada game, 13 minutes in.

Yeah, this Netherlands New Zealand game has been pretty good to watch! Some decent pace and a few great chances at both ends

Irritating thing is that I need my computer to pretend it's in the UK to watch the BBC stream, but I need it to be Canadian for the CBC hockey stream. Can't watch both simultaneously.

Dutch midfielders.

I think you like the #11 who scored the goal?

Yeah. This Dutch forward Martens just scored a stunning goal, I'm already salivating over the impending battle between her and Buchanan. She has great foot speed.

Everything is coming up great so far! Canadian born and raised. So happy for the Canadian team to come up with the victory. Plus I have Dutch citizenship through parents and they have the lead!

Still at the game for NZ vs the Netherlands. Slow and lacking emotion cmpred to the Canada China game. Heat and blazing sun zaapped a lot of energy out.

Huge crowds started arriving at 230 but the security lines before you lined up to get in were slow - painfully slow. Thirty + minute wait to clear security. Odd positioning of merchandise tent inside concourse bottlenecks right at main junction. Poor planning for that.

Once crowd got in it was good. Announced attendence was 53,000 +.

^ Yeah it seriously looked like she got concussed earlier, but sprung right up. Both teams are going hard in on challenges everywhere on the field.

Martens is limping, I think she's hurt, and now she takes a yellow card for a dumb challenge.

Canada against both these teams will be interesting. Careful giving the Dutch space in the midfield to do work; van de Donk, Martens and Melis could pose a problem for Canada as Buchanan's the only one I'd trust to contain them but she can't take all three. They looked potentially dangerous tonight any time they got a touch in the attacking third. Schmidt is gonna have to stop being cute and have a go from range on the Dutch keeper, she's 5'6". 4 shots on target is not going to cut it with the Dutch firepower up front and their ability to counterattack. van de Donk and Martens are both sitting on yellows though, and both seem a bit delicate as well... be physical.

NZ looked good in the second half - Stott, Riley and Percival looked strong at the back and Canada is going to have to string some passes together if they even want to have a look at Nayler.

2 games in I'm far more engrossed in this tournament than I expected to be.

Im glad the canadian game is at 7 on thursday. That sun yesterday was intense. They missed a pile of $$$ by not having beer and pop vendors walk up and down the aisles yesterday.

they clearly had a pile of seats near the media area blocked off that could have been sold. Great seats too.

the china game .... chinese strategy from my seats seemed to be to not go otside the 18 yard widyh up the field unless we were out there first. Good reminder of importance to put these games away early. A lot of acting by chinese players.

nz vs ned game. Martins looks good for the ned #11. Percival from nz was their best pkayer #2. Also #17 gave the ned defence trouble. She is a tall, physical and fast forward.

We played a game later on called "spot the sunburn" because there were some high quality contenders in the crowd.

all in all, i may go to the thursday game if i can wrap up at work early enough. Id love to get some giant Tsam Canada heads made like the Hartlley and Gaudreau heads from the playoffs. Not sure whho made those but would love to talk to them.

Agreed. Getting beer and water was a nightmare in that crowd. Commonwealth is a nice stadium, but the concourses are too narrow and the walking vendors too infrequent to service the crowd at a premium event.

They have vendors in the seats at Eskimos games, it's odd that they weren't out for this event.
