Anyone thinking the most they'll get are Stajan and similar level centre players across the league or centre prospects waiting to make the jump/buried in depth on teams?
Looks like they're looking at most teams spare cogs/line 3-4 at most even though they're demanding first line players.
Backlund is exactly the type of player the Oilers should target but i would want more than Perron for him. Same age but Perron is UFA at the end of his deal in 2016 and Backlind is RFA at the end of his deal this year.
Based on his NHL play to date I have a hard time believing any team would offer this guy what the Flames offered ROR. He looks like the worst first overall pick in some time in what was one of the worst draft classes in some time.
Not saying the identical offer, just the structure. The two year where the second year is inflated to make the qualifying amount higher than normal.
The funny thing about everyone wanting Eberle is that I think a lot of that is still hype and a carryover from his world junior play. A lot of Oilers fans have been trashing him for lacking heart and desire.
Yup. I don't think those that are saying Eberle have been paying much attention over the last three years and noticed how much he has regressed.
In his first couple years, he was very dynamic. But he has not learned the NHL game and now is one-dimensional with little upside - much like a Hemsky: if you can afford to have him as a middle 6 winger that provides nothing but PP offense, then sure. But that's just about it. At $6m per.

Yakupov's popularity seems to have shifted from last year. I remember every time I saw his name pop up here it was to blast the kid for zero effort and a terrible attitude. Definitely nothing I'd want anywhere near here.
However, (and my opinions are purely based on what I'm reading in this tread) if there is potential here I'd love to have him. The cost would have to be low, but if Edmonton is worried that the kid will walk we may get him for a song as a 'reclamation'. If there is any team in the NHL right now that can turn this kid into a player, it'd be Calgary.
That goes for Eberle too, but I'd prefer not to have that $6million contract when it comes time to be re-signing Monahan, Bennett and Gaudreau.
Edit: And Stajan is about as much as I'm willing to offer.

Exactly - been saying this myself. Eberle is a really good comparison in my mind to Hemsky. Skilled without question, but a complimentary player on a good team more-so than the guy driving the bus.
Hall at least cares - makes dumb mistakes repeatedly but cares enough that with the proper coaching and leadership he has the desire to do the right things. And RNH has taken a big step forward this year - just stuck in the quagmire that is the current Oilers team.
Beyond that, not sure there's anyone on their current roster I'd consider hands-off. Schultz's give-a-crap meter, confidence, and defensive IQ are all hopelessly defective - at least in his current surroundings. Package Eberle and Schultz and see what that gets you to start.

Sort of alluded to this in another thread but I think Perron would be a good addition. Has had trouble staying healthy but managed to do so last year finally and put up around 30 goals and 60 pts. Is also only 26 years old and could probably be had at a bit of a discount, provided someone talked some sense into MacTavish. I also don't think he's a part of the problem in Edmonton either.
Also some other obvious ones (Hall, Eberle) but I'm trying to be realistic with who might be available and relatively easy to acquire.

Whenever I hear about Edmonton and their Giordanos, I always hear South Park's "What Would Brian Boitano Do?" except it's their defensemen singing "What would Mark Giordano do?"
This needs to happen.. I used to piss my parents off with South Park songs like you wouldn't believe

I'm thinking of a trade. Stajan and kanzig for marincin, gernat and horak
If I were GM of the Flames, or any team for that matter, I would not be able to sleep at night knowing I sent a human beings into the Oilers organization.

That'd be awesome intermission entertainment, just let them sit in a room and talk about stuff like winning, bold moves and so on.
Problem is that it might make EDM respectable again, so we need to send them Feaster and B Sutter somehow to keep them from winning. Are they still on the payroll?
The simple answer to this question is I wouldn't. I don't see any players on their team that would help the Flames because the Flames don't really need too much help and anything they do need the oilers need too. Taking a player from the oilers would probably make the oilers better by subtraction but would make the Flames worse. Why change a good thing?
I'm not even sure any of their prospects would be that good for us and none of them are really doing that well. I sure as hec wouldn't take dry-saddle because he said he wanted to be an oiler...he deserves this.
