I like Hartley and think he has done an amazing job so far...but

He needs to justify putting three d-men on the five on three (I think there was Russell, Gio, and Wideman) especially when you have a super skilled guy sitting on the bench. To me, this is piss poor coaching. Thoughts?

Carey Price was lucky that he's 6'3" to get his skate on that deke by Johnny in the shootout. Gaudreau had him completely fooled.

Johnny Hockey was absolutely everywhere and so dangerous anytime he had the puck or was near to it. Whatever attitude or confidence he had in this game he needs to bottle it and re-open it every time he plays. It seems like sitting him out for the one game definitely helped him. I'd say he definitely knows he can play with the big boys now.

Wideman played well but there was no doubt to me that the team wanted him to get his fifth goal. Even though Jones just came back from an injury he played hard which was great to see. Brodie was skating like the wind all night. Gio was great as usual. Bollig seemed to very involved too.

Hiller was outstanding. I was pretty pumped that we got him in the off-season and he's making Trevliving look pretty smart for that move.

With the injuries it's going to be interesting to see what they do for replacements. If sitting Gaudreau and Wideman for one game made the differences in them, I hope sitting Setoguchi for six will have a similar effect on him if he plays.

It was a great game and I haven't been on the edge of my seat like that for a long time. The outcome doesn't even bother me - you know the team is a few players away from the playoffs. I'm just disappointed CP was 12 posts short of 1,000 for the Game Time thread.

Why not try having three guys out there with bomb slapshots?

Johnny tonight looked as dominant as he did mid last season when he was taking the ncaa by storm. Except at the nhl level. This says so much about what he can do at this level. I was waiting and waiting for this game from him. I think he's finally figured it out.

Johnny HOCKEY is back.

Johnny is only going up. What we're seeing is the lower part of that curve.

“You've gotta tip your hat to Price over there,” said Flames captain Mark Giordano. “He made the saves when they needed them. A few of us, myself probably No. 1, had some really good looks down the stretch and we've gotta find a way to bury one of those. It sucks to lose in a shootout always, but we can't be disappointed with that game.

“They’ve got some young talent over there and they definitely stretched us to the limits,” Price said. “You’ve got to tip your hat to them.”

Gaudreau, in arguably his finest outing as a pro (“From my view, at some points, I was watching him and I was feeling like a fan,” beamed Flames bench boss Bob Hartley), fired six on net. To put that in perspective, he had a total of only four attempts in nine previous outings.
Quote:
“The story of the game? I think it's quite simple — we just couldn't get that one goal,” Hartley said. “I don't think I can ask for anything more from my guys. What a great game. I think our fans saw a great goalie battle. We just couldn't capitalize on a couple of scoring chances, and that was the difference in the game.

How old is Gaudreau? 21? Can we just sign him to a 19 year contract already.

The most entertaining game I have been to in a long time

Habs are first in the east and they were into the game tonight (this wasn't a weak effort on their part). Yet the Flames dominated.

Brodie might be the Flames' best player. It was great to watch the comparison, and Brodie was much better than Subban tonight. But man does PK have a cannon of a shot!

Where are those that have criticized some of us for over-hyping Gaudreau? This kid is the real deal.

Could easily have been 3 or 4 nothing. Credit to Price, and to the Habs - a win is a win.

But what a hockey game! If the Flames play like that every night... man!

Oh, and when did the Habs turn into the Canucks of the east? Between the diving and the d-baggery, Mr Beliveau must have been throwing up in his mouth.

Yes the Flames lost the game but I am still happy that I saw an awesome game. Everyone in Flames uniform absolutely played their hearts out and I cannot say anything negative about anyone.

Johnnie Gaudreau I thought was so involved tonight. He could have scored a few goals if it wasn't for Carey Price's superb goaltending. I think we will start seeing Gaudreau getting more ice time now that he showed Hartley that he can play 4 on 4 and get some chances. I thought he scored on the shootout but I saw the replay.

David Jones : I have to admit he is one of my least favorite Flames player because he looks like he's playing scared all the time and was not using his size. Tonight might be the best game I've seen David Jones played in Flames uniform. He made some good plays, he almost scored a few goals and was physical.

TJ Brodie : not his best game but this guy can really skate. I love it when he went a rush in the 3rd period then Montreal got the puck and guess what? He came back playing defense so fast. TJ is becoming to be one of the best defenseman in the league right now.

Jonas Hiller : Yes he wasn't challenged as much Price but when he does, he makes some good save. I really can't blame him on the tying goal by Montreal. Two guys was right in front of him and it looks like the puck changed direction or something.

Kris Russell : I love that we have 4 defensemen who can make good passes, can skates and make some plays. I never even thought Russell can be this good.

I like Gaudreau, but he was way too passive in the shootout and passed up a lot of good shot opportunities in the game. He will only get better IMO.

Yeah, he had an amazing game. Not trying to be over critical, but he forced a few passes where he should/could have shot IMO. I think once he has more confidence in his shot, he will use it more.

I really enjoyed watching that game. Love this team.

But I disagree with people saying this evens out our result against Chicago... at least in the Chicago game we didn't act like d-bags on the ice.
