I like 19 on him.

If Jooris can wear 86, then Bennett can wear 93

For me that quote above seemed right up there with saying "I sure hope the surgeon washed his hands before preforming the surgery".
Of course he's getting advice from the Team Doctors who are obviously monitoring he and his rehab very closely and absolutely keeping the Flames staff advised. Honestly, some of the things people worry about are astounding.

Forgive me if I'm sketchy on the details - but didn't he play all last year with a bad shoulder, or separated shoulder? I'm sure the junior team had doctors as well, and he told them "Yep, I'm good to go" before the Flames got him into surgery this fall.
I guess all I meant was that I'm more interested in what the doctors have to say about his health than Bennett himself. Because he'd go out there on one leg seemingly, while telling everyone it was just a flesh wound.

It's a whole different ball game at the NHL level, especially since the injury was fully diagnosed and surgery was performed. I believe he was flown to the US for the surgery at the hands of one of the top specialists in the world dealing with that particular injury.
Now that he's recovering and rehabbing, he's in Calgary under strict supervision of the team's medical staff and specialists, along with the rehab he's doing.
It just seemed really odd to suggest he might be left to his own devices and that the Flames might not be fully apprised of his progress when the entire reason he's in Calgary is to be under supervision by the Team's medical staff.
I think it's safe to say he's in good hands.

I see it as pretty simple. The kid sacrificed his body to make it to the NHL and avoided treating it and risking his prospect evaluations.
The Flames intervened when they found out how serious this was. Given that he was not immediately needed, they want to take care of it now.
He was drafted by the team he wanted, and now he's getting the best level of attention a pro player can ask for. Everything came up Bennett.

I do like that the team and Bennett decided to keep him in Calgary during the recovery process. The kid has a no quit until I die attitude and it needed to be checked and contained. God, when this kid is healthy......
I'm not fully sold either that Bennett if and when he can actually play games, will be sent back to Juniors. He's fully immersed in the culture here. It'll be interesting to see how it all unfolds.

I think this time rehabbing is great, I'm assuming he's getting time around the players while he's also getting advice and being checked on by professional trainers and doctors.
He gets to see pro athletes go about their business everyday, in the gym, and off the ice. He's gonna see all this and end up going down to the CHL not only bringing knowledge for himself but being a leader for his team showing his teammates how to play like pros. He Gets a half season to get up to speed and fine tune his game, and then a big offseason to add even more muscle.

One thing I like is we know Bennett is committed. There will be no problems with getting him to buy in or work hard, he'll be the lead dog in the pack that needs to be slowed down so he doesn't kill himself due to exhaustion. He needs to care about his wellbeing more, it's obvious he is %110 committed to hockey and would sacrifice his body to win.

It was mentioned on the Fan yesterday that Bennett will be hitching a ride to Ontario next week. Perhaps this is with the intention that he spends the holiday with his family, then starts skating with his OHL club. I'm just speculating though.

He mentions in the full interview on flames tv that he's meeting with the surgeon in early January and then heading back to Calgary as soon as possible to start skating.

I hope the team consults Eric cressey on his rehab and ongoing conditioning after he is back playing. The man is a wizard with shoulder strength and mobility in athletes.

Almost a perfect scenario. Kid gets a year to fill out, doesn't burn a year on his entry level deal and gets to be in a pro environment for half the year learning work habits, watching the games and soaking up the great culture of the team.
I don't know if they would have been able to send him down with his skill level but he was still pretty small to start the year, and plays a physical game - just a guess I don't know that it would have been the best thing for his development to play in the NHL for a full year. He already looks quite a lot older than the draft in those videos.
Plus a cameo for a few games later in the year will be really fun to watch.

Are the rules for conditioning stints still the same as they were when Brayden Schenn was with the LA Kings? I remember him being sent to the AHL for a couple of weeks, playing a bit in the NHL and eventually returning to junior.
If it's possible, I'd love to see Bennett go play for a couple of weeks in the AHL then get his 9 games (and possibly more depending on injuries) with the big team.

Bennett will be the best Flames forward in 3-5 years. Gaudreau will challenge but I think Sam is a notch better.
