Not only does it sound tacky, it sounds tacky and manipulative. Yuck. That's like stereotypical car salesman territory right there. If someone had the gall to say that to me - insinuating that I hadn't thought of such a thing - not only would I decline anything else they might offer out of hand, I also might refuse to complete the purchase.
