It's all in the execution. Apple makes stuff that performs wonderfully within the ecosystem they've built for it. They deserve a tremendous amount of credit for all they've accomplished with the iPhone and iOS.
My nexus 5 is one of the best phones I've ever had. I love the size, I love the screen, I like how simple Android makes modifying the aesthetics. I adore the way it handles email and my google calendar widget is indispensable for work. The value for dollar is through the roof, and I can't see myself going for a non Nexus device until apple at the very least adopts some sort of Swype typing system.
But there is no denying it it is a cheap feeling plastic device when placed side by side with an iPhone. Personally, I'm a little bummed they caved in and went for the bigger screens like everyone else. The commercial above was right; being able to use your entire phone with just your thumb is a breathtaking example of common sense. It also gave the people who wanted a more svelte device an option. But I suppose there's no stopping progress.
One other thing. The Apple commercials and marketing prior to Steve Jobs' death were fun, clever, cheeky and altogether wonderful most of the time. Every other add they run these days gives me ###### chills, and that's irritating. Get it together, Cook.

I have a Note 3 and I think it 5.7inch. It was big at first, but after a week its just plain awesome. At first you think that it will be weird to hold that up and talk on it...then you realize that you don't actually use the phone as a phone anymore and for texting, emailing and going online the bigger screen is better. I look at the iPhone now and it looks ridiculously small.
Exactly, the size will seem normal once you have it for a few days, and you'll never want to go smaller again.
For anyone debating about going bigger with their Iphone, do it, you'll thank us later.

Question about NFC.... Apple needed to make arrangements with credit card companies, banks and stores to work with Apple Pay. Does that mean I can't just use it with existing chip tapping terminals in Canada until such arrangements are made? Is Apple Pay something unique or just Apple's branding of existing tech?
How does it work for Android NFC phones, are those arrangements already in place?
I think this argument has been fully abandoned by just about everyone but the most hardcore anti-Apple segment.
Seriously I know the OneplusOne, Nexus 5/4, Nexus 7, etc are all cheap but they are not equals. It has been proven in multiple tests that shoving a chip and a bunch of ram in a phone is like saying every V-8 out performs and out values every V-6. So much more to look at.
I think anyone who is holding a Oneplus should be happy, but don't for a second think you have a phone on par with a iPhone6 in terms of build quality. They are just different segments. It is like saying a Hyundai Genesis is basically a Mercedes Benz. Ya...No.
Sure you are paying a premium on the Benz but if that fit and finish and overall performance is what you desire then that is the car for you.
On a second note, I don't get the hate on for this phone. Who cares what they did or did not do first. There are so many phones no single one can be first on everything, they all copy each other. I personally think Apple did enough here to give a solid shot at top overall phone again. Lots to like, and if you are disappointed look to your own phone, what amazing thing does it do that Apple dropped the ball with here? If you can point one thing out, great keep your phone and be happy.
Have you held a OnePlus? Comparing mine to my buddy's iPhone 5, the build quality is superior. Also HTC has been making phones that at least equal Apple in build quality for years now

What exactly is the advantage of NFC? Currently I can go to most places and pay just by tapping my credit or debit card, why would I link my bank account to my phone to use that instead?

Can you elaborate? The 5 is metal and glass. I'm just curious what materials the OnePlus could have that feel superior to tight fitting metal and glass of the iphone. Honestly I don't think you can make a phone more solid than the 5 unless it's made of exotic materials. I can totally see someone making a phone as high quality but higher quality?
For all the apple haters, the thing about them is that their stuff works. It seldom breaks down and the coolest thing is all their gadgets work in tandem haromny.

For me the advantage is security. My grandpa did this old-man-thing when he used to pay for meals in a restaurant. He'd give his credit card to the server and then follow them to the machine and watch them like a hawk. It's funny that today everybody worries so much about online credit card fraud, but we freely hand somebody our credit card to walk away. I used to think grandpa was nuts, but looking back he was being cautious in what is probably the most dangerous action you can do with a credit card.
The fact that the apple pay info uses unique 1-time numbers is very attractive. I can pay at a store and they can literally lose all the data, and it won't be of any value.
Further, it's linked to a fingerprint. PIN codes and passwords are so easy to skim that I feel far better using a fingerprint.
As for the watch, I was most interested with the stuff they tacked on at the end. The exercise stuff was pretty interesting, and the gameification with those circles is something that would totally get me hooked because I'm weird. I'm not sure I want to pay $350 for an exercise band, when the iPhone already has the updated M8 chips that do movement, gps, and elevation change.
Cook mentioned that the feature list is quite long. A developer used his watch as a view finder for his phone camera? That's pretty awesome. There are loads of times I set up my phone, set a timer, attempt a family photo and screw something up. I'm interested to see where this goes, but I'm not sure V1 is for me.

Well it's also personal preference. The OnePlus is as solid feeling as any phone I've ever used, but the material they used for the back is completely different, it has a textured matte finish that's very comfortable to use and non-slip. It was actually a difficult decision to put a case on it since it feels so good in the hand

I find my wife's Note 3 to feel very nice with the leather back. It's also a shame to put a case on it, but worth it since she'll have it for a couple of years. I definitely don't think Apple has the market cornered on premium phones; however, there's no doubt Apple makes a very nice phone.

Yeah my iMac, Apple TV, iPads, iPods and iPhones all work together so flawlessly that Apple would really have to drop the ball for me to ever consider leaving the ecosystem. The only hardware failure we have had in any apple product (outside of wireless mouse) is my young son's ipod touch that he dropped in the toilet. Funny thing is that it still worked after being fully submerged in water but the screen got dark (backlight failure I assume). We paid $100 and Apple sent us a refurbished one. They have a good track record in my house so why would I change for a few extra pixels or some software differences that I may never use anyway? Wireless charging would be nice though.
The thing about giant phones is I'm like everybody else in that I find them wayyy too big looking. However, anybody who has one talks about it like it's the promised land. It's hard to ignore them given that they have actually test driven them. Even guys on nerdy podcasts I listen to that make fun of big phones have admitted they were totally wrong.

Continuity has got to be "the" iOS feature IMO. I've always loved how I could have an iMessage conversation on my device. Power on my Mac at work and continue the conversation on my computer without having to pull out my phone. Go for coffee? No problem continue the conversation on my phone.
This will extend to other things such partially drafted emails, web browsing, and the iMessage feature will work with SMS/MMS now for iOS8. It has got to be the thing I appreciate the most about how well their products integrate and how much it annoys me when other things don't support this (i.e. whatsapp).

lol, I have a feeling a lot of Apple fanatics are all of a sudden going to come around on large phones over the next couple of days.

My thing with large phones is that I'm cursed with small girly hands. I don't want to use a phone with two hands, I want to be able to use the thing like it's actually a phone.
I have no idea if any other phone does this or not, but I really like the double-tap feature in the 6/6+ that moves the app down so you can reach the top corner of it with your thumb. I might finally be able to use a big phone now...
The Notes have had one-handed mode for awhile now. Basically it creates a smaller floating window for you to use. Believe you can set to left or right handed where the window will shrink and move to either side.

Lol.
Stop trying to understand why people like Apple. It's OK that you don't like them.
And there's about to be a whole new device category for you to not understand the attraction of.
