Not as embarrassed as whoever was with the guy in the full Deadpool outfit in my theater this afternoon.

Not gonna lie I'm shocked. Really shocked. I wasn't sure it'd even be #1 for the weekend.

Fox is remaining conservative, putting the movie's three-day weekend in the vicinity of Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million) and Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million). Rival studios, however, are predicting that Deadpool will cross $100 million for the three-days alone, becoming only the 11th comic book movie to achieve that feat. And it's likely to score the top three-day R-rated opening of all time.

It was obviously very low budget and very Vancouver but that was okay. It literally was like a rom com to me and all the pieces were very low key. I wish his origin story had a little more oomph to it and there was no real narrative arc or badie that made sense but hey, it's Deadpool.
My biggest beef is that they don't really explain Deadpool's humor and 4th wall breaking madness as stemming from his cancer and healing factor fighting against each other in his brain either making him crazy or giving him perception outside of his own story dimension. He's basically the same dude before and after his superpower origin (which fell flat for me).

Rumours are it was Reynolds.

This was such a fun, hilarious movie that is unlike any other super hero movie ever made, staying true to the character and very well acted by Ryan Reynolds. I can't remember when I've had that much fun at a movie before, and that's including The Force Awakens. The title sequence was hilarious and well made and sets the tone well for the rest of the movie. I would definitely recommend this to everyone who isn't under 17

Ya I would definitely give him a lot of credit too, the videos he has been doing and basically being willing to pimp the movie at every opportunity (even for the past 10 years just trying to get it made) you could tell it was a passion for him

It had a great weekend, $135 million:

Quote:
Deadpool bowed to an estimated $135 million this weekend, becoming the first R-rated movie ever to break $100 million in its opening weekend. Already making back its $58 million production budget, the Ryan Reynolds-starring superhero flick sped past all expectations and could earn as much as $150 million over the four-day holiday weekend. That’s more than double initial predictions of about $65 million.
Deadpool also earned the biggest February opening weekend ever and demolished the President’s Day record set by Fifty Shades of Grey, which debuted last year to $85.2 million over three days and $93 million over four.
|
Quote:
Reynolds spent years trying to convince studios that an R-rated superhero movie would work, and if Deadpool’s success is any indication, we should be seeing more of them soon. With an A CinemaScore, Deadpool is now 20th Century Fox’s biggest opening ever, and it surpassed the openings of PG-13-rated superhero movies like Man of Steel ($116.6 millon), Captain America: The Winter Soldier ($95 million), and Guardians of the Galaxy ($94.3 million). A Deadpool sequel hasn’t officially been announced, but Fox and the screenwriters have all but confirmed that it’s going to happen.

I enjoyed it and so did my wife which is a surprise. Definately not for children under because there's plenty of sexual innuendo which IMO isn't appropriate for kids or young teens. Not perfect but fun and a good start to one of the more interesting characters of the Marvel universe.

It was one of the more memorable experiences I have had at the theatre. Such an incredibly refreshing film. Absolutely loved it.

So for those who've seen it, that 14A sounds like it's a bit of a generous rating? As in probably should have been higher?

Language is constant and very much on the hard end of things (for those that care). Penis and female full frontal. 14A would seem generous. I'm in the states but it was clearly R. It wasn't one of those R movies where they had an extra couple F words to push it from PG-13 to R (no rating in between in the states).
Last night I actually sat beside a 11 or 12 year old who was visibly uncomfortable for a good chunk of the movie. Idiot parents (IMHO).

I'd be uncomfortable too if I had a creepy guy staring at me the whole movie.

I didn't know it was 14a, R seems generous. That it got 14a is a kind of ridiculous. The level of gore and brutality made me think it was whatever is past R.
Non important at all spoilers;
A skinless charred person splats against a traffic sign, there is dismemberment, a sex scene, multiple moments of torture and full frontal. The whole movie is a treck through debauchery.

The violence was passable for 14A (seriously if you think that movie is overly violent you don't watch much of the 14A teen horror movies these days) it was very adult themed with the sexual innuendo that you typically only see in R rated movies.

Final weekend numbers are and this thing blew away all expectations.
http://www.boxofficemojo.com/news/?id=4158&p=.htm
Ryan Reynolds has to be the happiest person in the world right now. All of the film industry media is pretty much knighting him at this point and it really is justified. The guy was done as a A-List actor and managed to take a passion project that he had to fight so hard to get made and turned into not only the most successful R-Rated movie ever, but also got glowing reviews. Good for him. I always liked him, especially in comedy.
I've got tickets to see it tonight. Honestly, the trailer didn't do much for me and I was expecting the movie to get pretty bad reviews but I'm fully buying into the hype right now. Nothing better than well reviewed R-Rated comedies.

It'd be super awkward sitting with your parents when there is full frontal and sex scenes. The violence was not overly gory because it's so CG'd but there are decapitations, dismemberment etc.
