What would you base this on exactly?

From what i have learned about both Treliving and Burke, they covet size, speed, and tough to play against players as the basis of a team.

Glencross covers every one of those aspects.

He will be offered what fair market value is for a guy of his abilities and numbers as well as being a leader on this team....nevermind the discount he took last time.

He would get over 5 mil on the open market....so a bit less than that in Calgary and no doubt a NTC of some sort. Thats where the market is for guys of his ilk.

A similar contract will lead to him being overpaid big time in three years. He's a pretty mediocre player to begin with and possibly has the worst hockey IQ on the team. Don't see the point in bringing him back to be quite honest.

He probably is seeking that you're right. I don't think it should be from the Flames though. Quite injury prone these past years and inconsistent to be in that pay grade. With lots of LW prospect depth, Flames can afford to let him go get paid somewhere else. He's not a game breaker IMO to deserve that much with a NTC. Flames need to stop handing NTC/NMC to aging players.

I think he plays hockey to subsidize his ranch and true passion... and there's nothing wrong with that... but I don't want that on the Flames.

Let him get his big payday over the next 3-5 years on another team.

I would guess if he is really set of staying here he will be asking something like $4M x 5y. maybe front loaded a bit. I lets him recoup some lost career earnings quickly. And still offers a home town discount for the Flames in the near future at least.

I will also be surprised if he re-signs without a NTC. Re-signing before free agency at a home town discount will be a life style choice. And you have to think he will want to protect that.

Edit: $4M doesn't sound like a home town discount, but you look at guys like Bolland and 2nd line players near 30 seem to be getting $5+ on the open market these days.

just not a great fit for the team or on-ice culture the Flames appear to be cultivating here.

If we were interested in re-signing him I think he's worth $5MM AAV, and so I suspect he'd sign for somewhere around there, but I just can't see him being a part of the future with this club for very long.

Note that the majority of people are suggesting they don't want a NTC. What does that mean?

Post-apex... do not want. Oh wait... that guy's no longer in charge.

Still don't really care to see him re-signed.

2 years 3.5 mill or 3 years 4mill no NTC offered, if not let him walk.

Tough to play against? How is Glencross tough to play against by any measurement?

Every player for the most part has some baggage they carry around. I'll take the baggage if Glencross has bought into the culture here. I can see him getting something like 5.25M over a 2 year term. Perhaps he can even have modified NTC and get to choose 10 teams he wont go too as well. If they sign him longer than 3 years there are obviously other intangibles that the average internet GM doesn't see.

Three years ago maybe... I can't remember the last time Glencross laid a big hit. Last season he looked mostly disinterested.

By making lazy drop passes in the neutral zone...

Last season he looked mostly injured. I am not sure that is a fair assessment.
my own recollection is of mostly as uninspired, but that may have been a result of lingering repairs too.

If Glencross wants to sign at another home town discount then I would be happy for him to continue on the Flames. I still think Calgary should be trading upcoming UFAs that are not in the long term plans though and if Glencross hasn't been re-signed before the deadline he should be asked to waive his NTC.

Last season I was really looking forward to the Flames trading Cammy to help the rebuild. When that didn't happen I started looking forward to next season when they can trade Glencross to help the rebuild. Considering his goal scoring and cap hit the Flames would get a good return.

No problem with keeping a veteran in the top six, he's still got legs.

Only problem is that he's a 60 game player not an 80 game player. Consistently injured. Contract should reflect that reality.

Also, absolutely no NMC, modified trade clause at most.

It's a new age.

Everyone is a pro scout (because they watch upwards of 80 games yearly).
Advanced Stats are all that matters now (not potting 30 goals is no problem as long as they end in the offensive zone 65% of the time...)

GlenX is a sniper with good instincts around the net, he misses on more goals than most get chances at (I'm sure that is frowned on by the Advanced Stats regime). He's also an Alberta Farm Boy and although this is not important to the "new" flames fan base that is from the Maritimes and Sask. It's important to some.

He should be renewed, he's already taken a big discount as a home boy.

Trucelent = Yes!

Solid depth winger, very versatile, can pk, pp, top and bottom six as well as both wings. Chippy when engaged, but inconsistent. Good for 20+ goals.

I'd compare him to Dubinsky, he could cash in 5x5 on the market depending on supply & demand.

My guess is 5x3 or 4x5 if he signs with the flames which is a good deal.

He looked frustrated last year, probably due to his injuries and possibly that he hates to lose - wears his heart on his sleeves (correct english expression?)

He's a keeper, will probably mature and take more responsibility.

Look what Dubinsky got.

Those are all reasons why you don't want the Flames to extend him. It says nothing about why you believe the Flames' management doesn't want to extend him.
